Holy hell. I haven't been able to update at all. There are numerous reasons for this--
- Mama sleepy. This pregnancy makes me sleep. And sleep. And sleep.
- The computer I use most of the time is currently hooked up to a large-screen TV, and thus allows for very little privacy to write.
- Busy! We've been busy with the holidays, and I've been catching up on school work.
- We recently bought a new Xbox 360 with Kinect, and it's eating our souls.
The holidays were pretty damn eventful. We had to wake up early to go see my family. I brought my camera but, as usual, never got around to taking any pictures. I absolutely love my family. When I was younger, I always seemed to feel out of place, but as i've aged I've really grown to appreciate and adore them all. Everyone was so excited to see Nick, and me with my little belly. We bought tupperware prior just so we could bring home mounds of leftovers, which we did. Afterwards, we went home to rest for about an hour before we had to spend the remainder of the day with Nick's family. I was a little wary of having to spend such an extended period of time with them. It wasn't as uncomfortable as I had feared. I absolutely adore Nick's aunt Sally and her boyfriend, and they've invited us to come stay with them in Los Angeles and have a little vacation (yes, please!). We're talking about going out there for a few days after we spend New Year's in Denver. The only thing that really had me on edge with Nick's family is the fact that a) his mother is a pretty critical woman, and I feel like I'm always under this magnifying glass when I'm around her, and b) we're having to hide the pregnancy from his grandparents right now because they're very traditional and his family doesn't think now's the best time to bring it up. It's a bit disappointing, because my whole family is supportive and happy with the news, whereas I feel more like a bit of a shameful secret when it comes to Nick's side. Either way, the day was overall enjoyable, albeit exhausting.
Afterwards, we decided to grab some coffee and go Black Friday people-watching with our friends Chris and Pinky. This was my first Black Friday experience, and I was thorough horrified and embarrassed with humanity. We went to Wal-Mart and watched as midnight rang in and the throngs of people went berserk over the sales. After about 20 minutes of observing, I couldn't deal anymore. The people were starting to make my skin crawl. We went to the mall, which wasn't nearly as crowded but still had people lining up outside of stores. Nick and I got the silly idea to go camp outside of Gamestop to get the Xbox 360 and Kinect, despite the fact that there wasn't even some epic sale going on for it. We were doing it just to do it. It wasn't nearly as exciting or interesting as I had anticipated, and we waited out the remainder only so the time we had already spent wouldn't be in vain. Never again will I go out on Black Friday. Insanity. However, the Kinect is awesome and we've had a lot of fun with it. We bought a Collector's Edition version of the game Kinectimals to give to Kyan for Christmas; it came with a plush toy that you can scan into the game so you can play with in in-game and in real life. I'm excited to let Kyan explore this alien technology. Not to mention it's a great workout-- my body is throbbing today after racing Nick in obstacle courses last night.
We're waiting now to go indulge in a midnight snack of bacon and blueberry waffles. Unhealthy, but you can't deny the demands of pregnancy cravings!
