Dear Ronald Moore and David Eick:
I wanted to thank both of you for re-creating Battlestar Galactica. The depth, the story, the writing, the acting, the characters, the sets, the special effects: everything was perfect. I hate to see the show bow out, because it was the best show on television, but I am happy that it went out on top. It went out leaving me wanting more the way Buffy the Vampire Slayer did (though it stumbled a few times towards the end), which is what good television should do. I am happy that it didn't wither and die the way other shows have done (let's face it The X-Files and Gilmore Girls). I agree that it was the time to end it, but I'll never be truly okay with the show ending.
You gave me a miniseries and four seasons, you gave me six years of a wonderful story, you gave me beautiful characters who are deeply flawed but still hold so much presence, and I can honestly say that I believe this show will stand the test of time. The way religion and politics and sex and love and war and science and the very essence of humanity was portrayed in this show, has made it one of the best shows to ever air.
The characters of this show, specifically Starbuck, are going to never be forgotten. The show itself will never be forgotten. And not because of the awards it's won, or the United Nations panel. It will never be forgotten by anyone who experienced it because it was epic.
I feel bad for those who didn't witness it as it aired, but I am confident the fan base will only grow over time with the release of the complete series. And I will continue to do my part in spreading the word.
While there may not be any new adventures, and while I may not be anxiously waiting for the next installment, or sitting on the edge of my seat to find out what happens next, I can say that I will have no problem going back and re-watching every single episode on DVD. And even though I know what happens now, I'll probably still worry or cry or jump for joy every single time.
Thank you for giving the fans a great ending. Thank you for the last six years of original and amazing storytelling. Everyone who worked on this show was fantastic. Not a weak link to be seen.
Thank you.
So say we all.
