Because I think too hard about TV
Okay, so Entertainment Weekly has a photo gallery of "24 TV Characters That Just Turn You Off." Readers write in their suggestions.
For the most part I agree with a lot of them. Dawson Leery from Dawson's Creek, Dawn from Buffy, Meredith from Grey's Anatomy, even Dan from Gossip Girl really annoys me sometimes. And then someone attacked Lee Adama of BSG and suddenly I was, "WTF?" because you don't mess with Lee! Or my love for the beautiful man that is Jamie Bamber.
"Lee Adama, on Battlestar Galactica. The only reason I don't want Lee to die is that Laura would have to put up with Bill crying about it. All Lee cares about is appearing to be on the moral high ground. He has no integrity as a person. No wonder his father doesn't respect him. -Lauren"
And these are the type of people I hate.
I can back the hating of Dawson because let's face it, he's one of the worst characters in the world. I would gladly have thrown him off a boat in the harbor and not cared. I would have happily locked him in a shed and left him to find his own way out. I hated Dawson. And it wasn't just because I loved Pacey so much more, it was because his character was a whiny teenager who used words and thoughts too big for that HUGE forehead, and he could never get over the fact Pacey was better for Joey. He was annoying and I totally understand that hatred.
I understand the Dawn hate too because her character was thrown in at season 5, and by then the show had a solid working cast, and they added Dawn in as fake little sister who was really a magical key just so they could have the whole Glory set up. Plus I blame Dawn for Buffy dying at the end of the fifth season, so you know, I don't like her. Plus she just isn't that great of an actress in that job.
And I can get behind the Meredith hate because I often find her grating. Her whiny-ness and annoying-ness borders on Peyton Sawyer territory often, but sometimes she does redeem herself. Also going for Mere is that I actually LIKE her with Derek, whereas we all know the hate I have for Peyton/Lucas on OTH.
And the Dan thing? I mean sure sometimes he annoy me, and I really don't care so much about the Dan/Serena love story anymore, but I don't think the show would be the show if he left. I'm just saying.
But attacking my beautiful Lee? BLASPHEMY! This Lauren girl must be blown out the air lock!
Also mentioned: Julie Taylor from FNL. Last season I may have agreed with that one. But this season Julie seems to have gotten past the annoying teen stage and is actually a human being once more. I'll cut that reader some slack though because she doesn't have any means to watch the third season yet. She'll wise up come 2009.
And I totally can't believe people placed Brennan and Angela from Bones on that list. Along with House! How do you not love him?
