Tomorrow!
No, I won't start singing songs from Annie. I did think about it, though. Hard enough as it is to believe, at least for me, but my summer in Switzerland has come to an end. My flight from Zurich is around noon tomorrow, and by 8:30pm AST I'll be back in Halifax!
So over the past 6 weeks, I've been to three countries, spoken lots of English and French and a little bit of German, spent Swiss Francs and Euros, taken planes, trains, and trams but no cars, and taken lots and lots of pictures on my dad's digital camera. My scrapbook is already 20 pages long, and it's far from finished. I've mailed at least 40 post cards and envelopes of ads and random things. I've bought a shocking amount of chocolate, though most of it hasn't been for me. I've successfully avoided eating any smelly cheeses, but I haven't managed to avoid eating mystery meat. I've spent entire days riding trains or trams and accomplishing nothing, and just as many days sitting inside and accomplishing nothing (or lots!). I've been to museums, cinemas, and the zoo. I've visited people that I haven't seen in 5 years. And tomorrow, I go back to normal life again.
The best part about going home is that I know I'll be back at Christmas. I think it would be much harder to leave if I didn't know when I'd be back. I even get to leave things here (which makes it easier to fit more chocolate in my suitcase!). So back I go to normal time zones, regular food, English TV stations, living nice and far from my family, and my cat (of course). I expect to sleep for a couple of days straight, and then life will really be back to normal! Life's looking pretty good :D
I never even got myself a Swiss icon. I'm a horrible expat.
