Accidental Date?

Jul 30, 2010 23:39

I may have inadvertently agreed to a date.   A friend/coworker of Dave's asked if I wanted to see Scott Pilgrim.  My natural answer was "yesyesyes."  He remarked that he had a ticket for a premiere or, more likely, a pre-screening and that I was welcome to be his plus-one.

This is not, in itself, problematic.  But his constant remarks to Dave about how he must have done something really dumb to lose me, and that he adores the fact that I have guns all over my room . . . might amount to something different.  I'll be seeing him tomorrow at the Mad Men theme party and perhaps that will clarify things.  In the meantime, I worry that (for the second time in life ever) I might have accidentally agreed to date someone in their mind, when I was really just interested in the activity that they offered in my interpretation.

And he's not someone that I could ever actually date.  He is, at least, mildly misogynistic (a deal breaker for me), way too into his military experiences (a near-deal breaker), and definitely some degree of homophobic (again, deal breaker).  He is otherwise entertaining, as a friend, and I like spending time around him, but I couldn't tie myself in a substantial way to someone whose beliefs were so adverse to mine as to morally offend me.

. . . also he calls me "doll" all the time which makes me want to punch him in the head.

I'm no doll.  I'm an angry ball of feminist, semi-libertarian rage.
Grrrr.
