I think thats what I was trying to explain. I'm frustrated with medical professionals who think the answer to all of life's problems resides in pills and weight, but they but no emphasis at all on the quality of your food. When I was eating 100% raw vegan I definitely lose weight but the best part was that my mood stabilized (huge for me), I could focus, I had tons of energy, I never felt bloated and sluggish. It was inarguably an effect of my drastic change in diet: eating fresh, raw fruits and vegetables that were easily recognized and digested by my body.
I have a friend who works at New England Center for Children and uses candy corn, potato chips, doritos, etc as positive reinforcers for desired behaviors, and the children regularly eat pizza, hot dogs, grilled cheese, etc. Given that they're such a progressive school, I asked why they didn't try altering their diet, but that was out of the question.
It seems like medical professionals don't believe (at least they don't advise as if they believe) there is a link between diet and whole body health which is why they gave you poor advice (lose weight or take meds). Its evident in advising consuming dairy or supplements to get calcium but there's more calcium in dark leafy greens. Same with avocados having significantly more potassium than bananas.
Doctors are dummies.
