Today we continued our adventures at the dealer's summit in Maine.
We spent the day at the factory. A good part of it was taken up with discussion groups, which probably won't be of interest to anyone else (and weren't to us, at times). There were two parts of particular interest, however.
The featured speaker after lunch was a gentleman who designs fonts for a living, and, among other things, co-founded Bitstream. His presentation was very interesting; it was neat to watch the fonts develop as the slides progressed. He's very good at what he does.
The other thing that was particularly interesting was the tour of the plant. I know how all of this works in theory, but it was extremely cool to see the machines in action. One thing that particularly caught my eye was a line of machines marked "Kluge." The person leading the tour pronounced it differently, but I wondered whether there might be any connection to the slang "kluge." I just looked it up, and it seems that there
probably is. You learn something new every day...
Tonight they held a banquet (more meals in aluminum foil - yum!), and we arranged to sit with the same people we ate with last night. Afterwards we sat in the lobby with them for a while trading stupid customer stories. Really nice people... we might try to get together with them if we ever wind up at the same trade show.
Tomorrow there are more discussion groups, and then we head back. It's been nice getting to meet everyone, but I'm looking forward to being home again...
