Holiday Pie... the low down

Nov 22, 2023 12:39

A week already since my last post... the first in several months.  But I'm trying to be a bit more regular with it, so hold on and see if I indeed end up posting on a more regular basis.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the US, a day usually identified as one of feasting.  And the Christmas Holidays follow in a few weeks, also noted for special meals.  These meals are often accompanied by various desserts, with pies being a favorite of many people.  But are the pies homemade, homebaked, premade,  prebaked , or what?

If you by a pie at the store and all you have to do is serve it, it's prebaked.
If you by a pie and you have to bake it before serving, it's premade.
If you by a premade pie shell, or premade crust(s) and line your pan, add the filling and bake, it's homebaked.
If you make the crust yourself, line the pan, add the filling and bake, then it's homemade.  It doesn't really matter how the filling is prepaired.  It can be completely from scratch or from  previously prepared and purchased ingredients.  The thing that makes a pie homemade is that the baker/cook/ preparer made the crust themselves.

I made the pies a few years ago.  If I remember correctly, it's an apple on the left and a mincemeat on the right.

It looks like we'll be having one homebaked and one homemade pie this year.  Eva plans to make a pumpkin pie using a store bought pie shell and canned pumpkin filling.  She also asked me to make pie shells/crust for an apple pie she'll also make.

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and that the joy extends to the rest of the Holiday Season.
