It was a beautiful day out today, so I went exploring. I meant to stick to my neighborhood, but got off on the wrong tram stop so I decided to scout out a route that my parents can use to get to the castle without climbing the hill of doom. I succeeded, woo! And then wandered around Mala Strana, hiding from the tour groups and finding cool little corners. I found a nice little non-smoking cafe that served "cornbread with cream cheese and peaches" which was actually the soft semi-cream cheese they have here on regular bread, but the fruit was great. Did I mention the "American lemonade" I had that was actually seltzer water, grenadine, a few slices of lemon and chunks of pineapple?

Anyways, I finally managed to take some pictures that I like, although I'm still unhappy with the picture quality. What the hell, why did my Olympus take better pics than this new shiny higher pixel camera? That's what I get for listening to all the people saying Canon was good, I'm sticking with Olympus from now on.
But I digress.

The castle, or technically the cathedral. You'd think I'd have gotten tired of it. But this, and the Tyn Church, I'm not sure they'll ever get old.

Way cool fence on the way to the castle. I think this might be the first time I got the Canon to do a selective focus.

This city has the greatest doors in the world. The second one isn't a gate to a courtyard, it's actually a mirror.

A bush/rock garden by the castle. It creeps me out a little, but in a good way. It'd be a good place to film a couple playing hide-and-seek...and then killing each other. The shadows lengthen, blood spatters on the white stones... I may have lived here too long.

These are the statues at the pretty gate to the castle. It's a guy stabbing someone, and another guy clubbing someone. Typically Czech, but I can see that maybe they'd want to scare people trying to get into the castle. They get the benefit of the doubt this one time.

"Oh look, what a pretty little courtyard! Aw, and a statue with a child and a bird, that's sweet...wait, what is that kid doing to it?...right then, a child strangling a bird, well I...I guess that's nice too..."

I have no idea why this man is professing his love to this deer. Oh Czech, you and your fucked up wacky antics.

The fabulous thing about Prague is this shit is the rule, not the exception. The other day I had M+L each write a short story. L wrote about a dog that bit a little boy and then ran away. M wrote about a little girl who had 2 cats that died - the last sentence of the story was that the mom was sad that she had to tell the little girl that her second cat had been hit by a car. I was laughing so hard, I was like "Oh man, only in Czech would you guys write these as homework" and they go, "Yeah, in America the pets would have gone to the vet and been miraculously saved." And then we'd all have pie.

Today was really good for my mirror self-portraits for some reason. For those new to my LJ, I started doing these when I was backpacking Western Europe alone and didn't have anyone to take pics of me, so I used mirrors to prove that I existed, or take cool shots that I didn't have any other models for. I dunno, maybe they're a weird kind of narcoleptic narcissistic, but I like them. And I'm pretty sure my Timbuk2 bag is in every single one. ♥
