TM Topic #207: Control (application)

Dec 04, 2007 13:07

“See, here he was in control,” Dexter said, making one clean slice with his imaginary knife. “The splatter is controlled, minimal and the pooling is denser.” He pointed the brownish red stain on the carpet that would forever hold the memory of this event.

He walked a few steps across the room. “And here, for some reason, he lost control.” He slashed violently through the air, the imaginary knife slitting a throat. “This is arterial splatter.” He pointed to the fan of crimson on the white wall. “Didn’t kill his victim though. He crawled away.”

Dexter hunched over, stepping through strings, miming the victim crawling. He pointed to a handprint in blood and regular splashes of blood.

“Finally, here, he regained control, overpowered his victim again and killed him.” A large pool of blood played witness to his theory.

“What made him lose control?” Angel asked.

Dexter stood and surveyed the room, a master piece of his art.

“I don’t know. There are so many things. So many factors. Maybe he got cut off in traffic this morning.”

Of course Dexter’s Dark Passenger never loses control. Control is what he and I run on. It holds our spine upright and keeps our puppet strings taunt so that we can pretend to be human.

Just as I keep control of my Dark Passenger I must also keep control of the human disguise I have built. I am a very good fake human. The only person I know that suspects is Doakes and he’s pretending human himself.

If I lose control for one second, I could violate Harry’s code and then it would all come tumbling down. The Dark Passenger would be loose, without fetters or reins. That is not something the world wants to see.

And it’s not something I want to see. It would disappoint Deb terribly and Harry, were he still alive.
