Although it may be a coincidence, I found this very interesting.
When creating Ultraman, Tsuburaya's original idea consisted of a sentient creature that could come to the rescue of the Scientific Investigation Agency (which later turned into the Science Patrol, I assume) by enlarging itself, etc. The human host's name is what caught my eye. (Wiki has a bit more on this here.)

From August Ragone's Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters, page 114:The twenty-eight-year-old hero of the series was named Officer Sakomizu and was described simply as a "tough guy," and in later drafts would become the human host for the shape-shifting Bemler. Forty-year-old senior officer Captain Muramatsu would be the only person who knew Sakomizu's secret identity.
Pretty much pure speculation, but this working plot may have been where Mebius got the name for Captain Sakomizu. I'm not quite sure what "tough guy" entails, as it could be interpreted a number of ways, but it's not too far off from Mebius' Sakomizu I suppose. And the Captain being the only person who knows his secret identity... well, that about sums up the relation between Mirai and Mebius' Sakomizu, too.

This book has taught me a lot of cool stuff.
