I roam around, around, around...

Dark clouds lay scattered low in the sky as the sun began to rise. Slowly, it lit up the clouds from below. Navy and violet clouds gave way to pinks and oranges, but nothing was so striking as the way the sun seemed to set fire to the rest of the sky. It was a beautiful, but uncommon sight in Vertiline, and it made many of the villagers of Eider ( Read more... )

The piano bench creaks ever so slightly at the nudge of his boot, an instant before the wind blows through one of the windows that appears to be missing a pane of glass. The sound is much louder there than down stairs, and the cold air rushes past Seth and down the stairs with a loud wail.

The items on the bookcase are far more interesting than a bench or a broken window, of course. Well, the books aren't. No one really wants to read Ponderous Ponderings or A History of Fungus for fun.

There are other things however. On one shelf, a rather excessively feathery chicken made of pewter sits on an egg made of what appears to be a glass crystal. Next to it, there's an artichoke made of, well, welded bits of metal sheeting. It looks sturdy, but not at all valuable. Next to the flower is a wooden mug. Further examination will reveal it has a rather large crack at the base, rendering it useless and difficult to fix. Perhaps that's why it was left behind.

That's not all there is on the bookshelf of course. There appears to be something beneath that leaning book...

He picks up A History of Fungus, dusts off the cover and smirks at the title, oddly amused that someone would even bother to write a book like that, let alone purchase it. The book is set down, a little rougher than a book should be treated and he looks to what else is on the shelf.

The chicken earns a prod, the mug ignored and the artichoke is picked up, fiddled with and lazily passed from hand to hand. Seth sighs and sets the artichoke back on the shelf. "Heh, boring."

Behind him, Seth's dog sniffs around before coming to stand at his side, peering up at its master as though asking what it should do next. An idle hand brushes knuckles on the top of the dogs head.

"Looks like we picked the wrong door to suss out," Seth mutters, "C'mon then."

The dog wags it's tail and the pair turn to leave, only for Seth to pause when the something beneath the book catches his gaze. Sure, it's probably another cheap decoration but while he's here, the man might as well take a look. Shifting the book, Seth finds himself looking at..?

It's so simple at first glance that it might have been overlooked at any other time.

The object is just a small figurine. A woman in a long skirt with a bustle at the back looks out from beneath the wide brim of her hat with the large plume. Her hands are raised up as she appears to be adjusting the glove that flares out at her wrist.

She's made of delicate porcelain, but the painter obviously took care with his paint, choosing to use it to breath life into her. Her skin looks soft and touchable, and somehow he's managed to paint an intricate embroidered trim to the hem of her skirts.

It's all soft matte colors but for the necklace around her neck. It holds a simple, emerald colored pendant. The gem itself is set slightly in her chest, perhaps a sign that she was designed with that necklace in mind.

Now that gets his attention. She's different to the other items on offer, not only for the gem in the necklace but for the amount of work and detail put into it. Carefully, he picks the figurine up, noting immediately that she's a fragile piece and knowing all to well that she may break easily.

"Someone put a lot of work into this," he mutters to the dog, who wags its tail in reply.

Thoughts cross his mind as to whether or not he should take the whole thing or try to remove the gem from it's place. Brow creasing to a frown, Seth puts the figure into his bag and gives the room another look-over. If nothing of interest appears, he'll take his Dog and go elsewhere.
