Dark clouds lay scattered low in the sky as the sun began to rise. Slowly, it lit up the clouds from below. Navy and violet clouds gave way to pinks and oranges, but nothing was so striking as the way the sun seemed to set fire to the rest of the sky. It was a beautiful, but uncommon sight in Vertiline, and it made many of the villagers of Eider wary.
The people of Vertiline lived a nervous life, constantly aware of their surroundings and always watching for changes in the environment. Something unexpected of out of the ordinary could be a sign of monsters. Eider sent word to the Temple, and the Temple forwarded Eider’s warning to Ardel. Unfortunately, two days had passed since the Called had left Ardel, and there was no time for the villagers to tell them a storm was coming.
Throughout the day, the women and children closed the shutters to protect their windows as many of the men saw to checking their traps and partaking in some last minute hunting. Young boys herded sheep and goats into barns in Ardel as others in Eider began pulling up rope ladders and putting them in a large storage hall along with the dining tables and benches.
All the while, clouds gathered slowly but surely. They seemed to crowd the skies of Ardel more than anywhere else, making the sky darken much earlier than usual.
The first drops of rain fell well before many villagers were in for the night. Those still outside shielded themselves and hurried to complete their tasks. Everyone was eager to be somewhere warm and dry before the skies truly opened above them.
For the Called following the agonizingly slow retreat of the fog, the situation was a little different. There had been nothing out of the ordinary in their surroundings since it started to draw back.
At least, until today.
By afternoon, a dark shape started to become visible to those traveling in the wake of the fog. It seemed to grow taller and broader in shape before inexplicably fading in the fog again. Moments later, the fog thinned to show more of this shape, revealing the outline to be more angular in nature.
The motionless shape faded again in the depths of the fog. As time passed, the shape seemed to continue to play this game of hide-and-seek, never showing enough to identify what it was.
It was only until later, when the sun truly began to set and the dark clouds gathered above, that the fog slipped away once more to reveal a
building. [OOC: The building is located off the beaten path. Both those who chose to travel the path and those who wandered into the wilderness itself may chance upon it.
Please feel free to tag here in reaction to the storm or to explore the building.]
