I roam around, around, around...

Dark clouds lay scattered low in the sky as the sun began to rise. Slowly, it lit up the clouds from below. Navy and violet clouds gave way to pinks and oranges, but nothing was so striking as the way the sun seemed to set fire to the rest of the sky. It was a beautiful, but uncommon sight in Vertiline, and it made many of the villagers of Eider ( Read more... )

If there's one thing that Kevas doesn't like it's being followed...and squirrels. By the Loa he hates squirrels, but that's a story for another time. Right now that shadow is bugging the hell out of him. Every time he catches sight of it his hands carefully slip down to his axes. Whatever it is, if it's going to attack he's going to be ready.

When Kevas spots the building lights begin to go off in his head. Well isn't this convenient. Shelter appears just when a storm begins to roll around. Still, only a fool would stay out in a storm when there's shelter nearby. If it's a trap then he'll just have to be ready for it.

It's so convenient Kevas. Too convenient? Only time will tell.

It is dry inside, however. At least, so far. There is the sound of some water nearby. A pool? A small fountain? It's hard to tell without any light.

Perhaps one of those conveniently placed torches by the door would help.

Dry is good. Dry is very good, but Kevas will go without the torch. For years he's spent his time skulking around in the darkness. By now he's quite accustom to it. Scent and hearing will make up for whatever he lacks in sight.

Kevas silently and slowly creeps towards the source of the sound.

He'll have a little ways to walk. The room he's in is fairly large, and the noise seems to be coming from beyond it.

To the right there's a doorway, and it's through there that the sound of water comes.

As for the scent of the room, well, it's rather dusty inside. Enough so that when he creeps in, it kicks up some of that dust. It unfortunately is rather thick and might obscure anything else he might smell...

There's a musty smell to smell to this place. It's enough to overpower anything else that might be here. Whatever this place is, it's been here for a very long time.

Using the wall and the sound of water as his guide, he finds the door and pushes it open just enough to peer inside. One can never be too careful. A place like this just screams trouble.

Just to reinforce Kevas' quite understandable concerns, the wind blows particularly hard past the windows of the building's tower. It summons up the low, wailing noise and sends it through each room with a rattle.

The door creaks loudly as Kevas pushes against it, but it opens only after a little resistance.

With the door open, the sound of water is much clearer. Water is definitely flowing within, not loudly, but with the floor dry, it seems to be contained to the opposite corner of the room.

The room itself has several large windows, though it does little to light up the room with even the moon obscured.

...was that a faint gleam of green coming from the same direction as the water sounds?

Storm must be getting worse out there. Though he's happy for the shelter, every second he expects a pack of worgen, or an abomination, or something equally horrible to spring out of the halls at him.

There's no immediate danger to be seen but Kevas draws a sword regardless. He hasn't forgotten about that shadow on the road and this seems like a wonderful place for an ambush. This is all far too convenient for him.

He slips into the room and continues heading towards the water. There's something gleaming back there and there's only one way to found out what that is.

It's several feet back from the gleam that Kevas' feet might bump into something solid. A wall perhaps? It's certainly too low to be the wall at the edge of the room, as that gleam was seen beyond where it was.

The gleam itself seemed to disappear as Kevas drew near. Perhaps with some searching, he might find the source? Of course, this is if Kevas can get past the niggling feeling that this place was harboring something dangerous.

After his feet bump into something Kevas feels it with his hands. Could this be the source of the water? Maybe it's a fountain. Too dark to tell at the moment though. At this point he kind of wishes he brought that torch with him. Oh well, too late for regrets.

Kevas begins searching the area very methodically. Whatever was gleaming must be nearby somewhere and he's going to find it.

The wall is about a foot and a half tall and several inches thick. It curves around until it meets the walls and within its confines, water bubbles up from an unseen source. The water is cool to the touch, and should Kevas venture to taste it, he'll find it tastes clean and refreshing.

Still, he'll have to venture into the water itself and reach into it if he wants to try and find that gleaming object again...

So it's not a fountain, but it's close enough. Kevas dips a hand into the water. Nice and cool, but where's the source? Could be some kind of well leading into it or maybe a stream. Where the water is coming from doesn't concern him as much as what it's hiding. That gleam came from here somewhere and he's going to find it.

Into the water he goes as he searches for the object. There's no telling what it actually is but it might useful. Then again it could just turn out to be a piece of glass or something, but without risk there is no reward.

The pool is a bit deeper than the ground Kevas stood on before. Still, the bottom is smooth and there doesn't seem to be anything at the bottom except...

Well if he searches a bit deeper in...

Did his hand just brush something smooth? Possibly metallic? Who could say until it's pulled out of the water and brought into the light?

Whatever this is it can't be a well. The bottom is much to smooth for that. Maybe it's a bathhouse like the one in the temple.

He continues his search, running his hands along the bottom until finally...

"Jackpot."

Kevas wraps his hand around whatever the object is and pulls it from the water to get a better look.

It has a handle! Isn't that convenient?

Further examination might lead Kevas to believe that the item in question is a cup. There's no way to tell what it's made of, but it doesn't appear to be smooth everywhere. There's an embossed trip around the top and bottom that can be felt, and little bits of...well, something set in that design.

Also, it doesn't leak! What an exciting find!

Alright that's a bit underwhelming. What is a cup doing in some pool? And why is it gleaming? Enough fumbling around in the dark, Kevas needs to get some light in here. The only other thing in here with him is his own paranoia. Kevas hops out of the pool and heads back towards the door for those torches.

Setting the cup down, Kevas grabs the flint and tender from his belt. Fortunately the water didn't reach his waist otherwise he might be in a little trouble. After striking a flame on the torch Kevas pulls it from the wall and examines the cup he found.

Oh my gosh, is it gold? Is it gold?

Wait, no. It's not. As lovely as the cup looks and gleams a golden color in the firelight, it's clear that it's just a little to dark a shade to be gold. It's a shame, as gold would really set off the color of the little colored gems set in the trim of the cup.

The trim itself is in a lovely art nouveau style, and at the center of each flower is a small gem. Blue, red, yellow, and yes, even green! They're rather small, no bigger than a quarter of an inch in diameter, and the cup itself looks on the cheaper side..
