I roam around, around, around...

Dark clouds lay scattered low in the sky as the sun began to rise. Slowly, it lit up the clouds from below. Navy and violet clouds gave way to pinks and oranges, but nothing was so striking as the way the sun seemed to set fire to the rest of the sky. It was a beautiful, but uncommon sight in Vertiline, and it made many of the villagers of Eider ( Read more... )

Naturally, Terry had to follow the path once he noticed it had cleared. He hadn't found anything interesting yet ... well, unless you count the creepy as hell shadow that's been following him all day. It didn't look like the one he encountered last time, but it made him a little nervous, nonetheless.

Bruce had the same mindset, having ventured into the fog shortly after sunset. He stayed on the path for two reasons: it seemed to be the safest and the odd shape following him never ventured far enough onto the path to attack. When he noticed the shape of the building off in the distance, he scaled a tree to get a better view.

His gaze was hard as he studied the structure before he caught movement out of the corner of his eye. And thankfully it was just Terry. Bruce dropped silently and began approaching the younger Batman quietly.

Terry's hand shot to his belt and he'd flicked out a mechanical batarang, poised to throw when he whirled around to meet Bruce. Straightening up, he narrowed his eyes and closed it, slipping it back into his belt.

"Sneaking up on people is only fun when I do it," he grumbled, voice kept low.

Bruce simply smirked. "Who's sneaking?" He strolled past the teenager, walking just a little ways ahead on the path. "Have you found anything?" He asked, before turning around to look at Terry.

The rain was only just beginning. It was a light sprinkle to start, despite the deep roll of thunder that sounded and echoed in the sky.

A breeze blew past the pair and the building they stood by. It seemed to hit the windows of the tall tower just so, causing a haunting whistle to echo through the rooms and out the front entrance.

It was the only activity within the darkened structure.

"Nothing yet, just a weird shadow tha--"

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF that wind was creepy as hell, and Terry glanced at the building.

That he hadn't even noticed before.

"Was that always there?"

"As far as I can tell."

Bruce's eyes narrow as he tilts his head to study the building.

"I don't hear anything."

But in this place that doesn't mean a thing. So he took a cautious step toward the building. Cautiously.

The building does not back away from Bruce or react at all to his approach.

It's just a building. Don't worry, Terry, it won't consume your soul. Honest.

Just inside the door, however, it does have a squat, brass urn with unlit torches resting inside.

Terry squints towards the urn, then presses his temple.

"Not much on the infrared. Probably just rodents." He smirks slightly and nods to Bruce. "Present company excluded."

"Speak for yourself, Junior."

Bruce returns Terry's smirk before flicking on his flashlight and shining it inside.

"Stay close and keep your eyes open." There have some good ol' fashion yeah-I-already-know-that-Bruce advice.

Bruce's flashlight breaks up the darkness inside. As light passes through the room, it illuminates simple things. A hundred feet away is the blank, stone wall just opposite the front doors.

The floor is clear, though far from clean as it's covered in a thin layer of dust and dirt. It appears no one has walked these floors for quite some time. The long banquet table and chairs at the side of the room are in a similar condition, clear of plates and cups, but also dirty.

The room is surprisingly empty except...

What are those bundles covered in burlap at the other side of the room?

What indeed.

Still nothing showing up on the infrafed and since Bruce has a flashlight, Terry switches back to normal vision.

The place looks old, uninhabited. And seriously retro. Scuffing his foot along the floor, he notices the layer of dust it kicks up, grimacing. "You shoulda brought Alfred."

Some kind of braces on the wall, bland decoration, sparse furniture. Not much to look at. Except ...

"Shine over here."

Terry narrows his eyes and steps over to the burlap. The lumpy, suspicious pile of burlap that's clearly covering something unpleasant. Well. He assumes it's unpleasant at least.

Crouching, he peels back one corner to see what's underneath.

"I don't think Alfred would dust this place." Not without a telly to watch at least.

He took a few more cautious steps inside, shining his light over various items. Nothing seemed interesting or dangerous. Still, Bruce has been the Batman long enough to know that doesn't mean much.

He shines his light over the furniture before following Terry's direction.

"Careful."

He reaches with his free hand for a batarang. Just in case.

Never fear. Nothing crawls, flies, or otherwise emerges from beneath the burlap. It's easily pulled back, though the dust on it is easily disturbed and rises up into a cloud.

Beneath the cover are several identical folded cots. Made of strong, polished wood and thick green canvas, they appear to have remained in good condition despite how long they seem to have gone without use.

Hmm. How strange.

There appears to be an old flashlight nestled in the folds of the fabric. That's an odd thing to keep half-under a cot. Wonder if it still works?
