Title:  Make Me (part 1)

Pairing: House/Cameron

Summary:  House is out to break someone.  Cameron isn't interested.

Beta: Special thanks to the lovely yogagal

She had always thought the hardest thing was loving someone and watching them die.  After Stacy’s arrival she came to the conclusion that the hardest thing, in fact, was loving someone who would never be fully capable of loving her back.

Although her husband had died he had loved her.  Really loved her.  He had loved her unconditionally and whole-heartedly since the moment he laid eyes on her.  For him there was no decision, no contemplation, and no doubt.  If a game had been in play than he had lost before the players even took the field.

The daily battles with House were beginning to wear her out.  Their relationship had always been strained but now it was threatening to rip her apart.  Instead of his clever remarks they were now condescending and cruel.   She felt he was raging a battle that neither of them were likely to win.

The arrival of Stacy had sent him in an emotional whirlwind.  He wanted to break her.  She could see it every time they were together.  He wanted to tare Stacy apart and leave her as damaged as he is.  But he also knew she wouldn’t let him.  One of the main reasons he was attracted to her was her ability to match wits.  If he couldn’t break Stacy he’d take the next available in line.

Currently Cameron was his target of choice.  She had fallen for him just as easily as she had fallen for a dying man.  Her heart was her weakness although she would never see it that way.  In his own twisted mind he thought the only way to fix himself was breaking someone else.

For a Friday the day was going painstakingly slow for House.  He couldn’t work on the current patient until the lab results were in and he still had two hours to kill before his shift was over.  In House’s case idle hands really were the devils play things.  He had already been kicked out of the OBGYN lounge, twice, and now he was looking for something else to occupy his time.

Through the glass door he watched as Cameron cleaned off the table in the adjoining room.  Although he made it rather clear that he wouldn’t date her, looking at her was not out of the question.

He was so engrossed in watching her move about that he hardly noticed the other man entering the room.  Cameron must not have been paying attention either because she practically jumped a foot off the ground when he tapped her on the shoulder.

Although House was watching the pair intently he didn’t need to look at the identification scrawled on the younger man’s badge.  This guy had ‘med student’ written all over him.  He couldn’t help but cringe when he noticed the flush of color enter her cheeks and a flash of warmth come into her eyes.

“Not a med student Cameron,” he said to himself, rolling his eyes.

“You know if you put a glass to the door you can probably hear a hell of a lot better,” Wilson laughed, leaning against the doorframe of the office.

“Yeah, well you know, the whole glass door thing.  It might look a little too obvious.  I like it better when I can make up my own dialogue.  ‘Oh, Dr. Cameron your eyes are the color of the sea.’  ‘Oh so and so you can buy me dinner if you have some sort of terminal disease.’

“You think you’ll ever be able to cut her a break?”  Wilson chimed in.  “If you want to know what they’re talking about you can always ask me.  I set them up.”

“You set them up?  Like as a couple?  Since when did PPTH have it’s own Dr. Phil?”  House sarcastically questioned.

“Relax Casanova.  He thought she was cute so I gave her his number.  I think they’re going out tonight.”  Wilson couldn’t help but acknowledge the look that flashed into his friend’s eyes.  “Is that a little bit of jealousy I see hiding in there.”

“Not jealousy, relief.  Now she can flash those doe eyes at someone else.”  House answered.

“Correct me if I’m wrong but I think she stopped flashing those big beautiful eyes at you a long time ago.  If I remember correctly it was right after you took her on that less than stellar date.”

“Fine.  What are you doing here anyway?  Don’t you have any of those baldheaded kids that need saving?”

“Actually that’s why I’m here,” Wilson answered.  “I have a case that you should look at.”
