1. Do at least 20 push-ups and 20 sit-ups every day in January and increase this every month
Did 20/20 about 25 out of 31 days in January. I’ve done 30/30 about 10 days out of 20 so far in February. I generally don’t do them on days I run or play soccer, but I've gotten more lax about doing them every day.
2. Decrease my body fat through exercise and diet, specifically reducing my dairy and processed sugar intake
I’m no closer to this goal than I was when I wrote it. In fact, I think I may have even developed worse habits. I need to correct this. I need to transition to a non-dairy breakfast (oatmeal with soymilk, nuts and fruit, probably), I need to cut out the bad snacks and desserts, and I really need to get my portions back under control.
3. Keep work and home better separated by developing a daily routine and installing the pocket doors to close off my office
I've gotten closer to installing the pocket doors by getting some other projects done. Unfortunately, if this doesn’t get started before the weather breaks, it’ll get put off for quite a while as we do outdoor projects. While I don’t have a specific routine yet, I’ve given it some significant thought and have improved my office organization. I hope to put together a specific routine this week. I've also looked into some time management materials online.
4.Get my entire music library digitized and backed up
Haven’t finished organizing my CDs yet, but I have begun looking at options for hard drive storage and backups. Purchased and installed a new wireless router that has a USB port for a shared network drive and has high bandwidth for improved streaming media performance. Also purchased a spindle of blank optical disks.
5. Finally get around to reading Hofstadter's "Godel, Escher, Bach," Peake's Gormenghast trilogy, Mann's "Magic Mountain," Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow," and Burgess' "A Clockwork Orange"
Haven’t even pulled any of these off the shelf yet or been to the library. I've been doing a lot of reading this year, but almost all of my reading so far has been work-related.
6. Write at least 1000 words of fiction every month
I’ve done some non-fiction writing, but no fiction. My hope is to practice and improve my writing skills in general and also to get better at creating fiction. Non-fiction writing is at least covering the first part of this.
7. Begin having monthly Game Nights (board games) by March
The major interior house projects are almost done (except for the pocket doors for my office) and we’ve actually had some adults come visit, so we’re getting close to the point where we could plan this. First step will be to just invite a few folks over to gauge interest levels of specific people and keep things from being overwhelming, both for us and them, rather than a full-fledged Game Night. Any of you in Rochester who are interested in board gaming, please let me know and I’ll be sure to invite you. :-)
8. Practice/play my bass at least once a week
Pulled it out and fiddled with it a little before I left for SF last week. I really think I need to get a bass amp to be motivated. I have looked at some deals online, and I think I can get something decent (for home practice) in the $100 range.
9. Log at least 500 miles of running (that's less than 10 per week average)
So far I’ve logged 25 miles in 2 months. That rate will only get me to 150 miles for the year, but I know I’ll be running more once the weather breaks, so I feel pretty good about it right now.
10. Take the girls to Disney World
I’ve started looking a little into the costs and talking to other people who have gone recently, but haven’t done any serious planning or scheduling.
