Had a meeting today right next to the
Air Force Memorial and couldnt resist taking some photos....
I'm not a big fan of this memorial...I 'get it' - its symbolic of the Bomb Burst flying maneuver, but I think its showy and overpowers every other thing in the DC region. They've tried to humanize it by putting some bad bronze
honor guard statues nearby (I didn't photograph those) and there's several plaques with inspirational quotes....yeah, whatever.
That said, it was a GORGEOUS day, and the steel arcs and the blue sky were too pretty NOT to photograph.
Another element of the memorial is a thick glass panel showing an etching of the
Missing Man Formation, which, if you've ever seen one in person, is one of the biggest lump-in-your-throat event. The glass thing was really cool, and with the bright sun, the memorial reflected onto it in a ghostly kind of way....and yeah, the etched plane DOES kind of remind me of Wonder Woman's invisible jet :P
I really like this one....
this thing is HUGE
