Tragedy
I have 2 nieces, Cameron & Cyndi, the daughters of my sister-in-law Elaine. Both girls are married; Cameron has 2 sons, and Cyndi has 1.
I got a call tonight from my mother-in-law; Cyndi, her husband Josh, their son Liam (who turned 1 this past January) were on vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama, with a bunch of Josh's family. They were loading up the car to drive home to Hueytown, Alabama today at lunchtime when Liam slipped out of the car and got into the lagoon. He was found, and airlifted to the hospital in Pensacola, Florida, but couldn't be revived.
I can't remember hearing anything more chilling and sad than my mother-in-law saying to me "Why couldn't it have been me?" (meaning her, rather than Liam).
I was practically physically sick when I heard it, and then off and on all night tonight I've cried and cried. I've had loss in my life, as most of you know, but not like this. A young life, barely begun, and 2 young lovers and parents, left with only memories.
