The neighborhood picnic was wonderful--a big juicy hamburger with tomato, cheese, mayo and catsup, chips, brownies, Mike's Hard Lemonade and water! Plenty of nice folks, including some adorable kids--1 little guy was just enchanting and so full of personality. His mom had brought some bubble blowing stuff with him, and he and I were standing in front of the mister fan (which, in the heat of a Memphis summer, is your outdoor best friend)cooling off; I got treated to a very enthusiastic discourse on bubbles. A little girl came up and he asked her what her name was, and if she liked bubbles. I just love kids that are genuine kids--they could talk and use their imaginations and not a single electronic game in sight! Aaaaah, the good old days.
Had a great and long chat with a guy who grew up in the neighborhood--lots of shared memories, including our favorite college beer drinking haunts, the neighborhood bakery, movie theatres and mutual friends.
I was at the picnic from 5 until about 7:45, when I decided to head home for a cold shower and watching the penultimate episode of Robin Hood (BBC America)--it was *very* good indeed--tense and funny and just entertaining.
Tomorrow is an outing to see "The Dark Knight", which I'm sure I'll see more than once, and then it's the oh-so-exciting garbage ritual. We have curbside trash and recycling pick-up here once a week, and in this heat I can't afford to miss one pick-up. I'll wait and do that tomorrow when it's dusky--it's just *too* hot to be outside (if you're not swimming or standing under a hose) in the heat of the day.
Now, it's time for a latish snack of cookies and moo juice, so Happy Sunday Eve, everybody!
