I keep meaning to post more here (or post at all, in fact), and then... not doing it. (I pour everything out in long stream-of-consciousness emails to poor

I remember you mentioned a while ago in your LJ how much you disliked the new version of Google Docs, and I definitely see what you mean now! I use Google Docs mostly to back up LJ posts while I write them so I don't have to be afraid that they'll get eaten by LJ! If I wanted to deal with Word's hang-ups about using weird symbols in its documents, then I would be using Word! *sigh*
It does feel a bit unsafe to rely on something that lets you opt out into an older version of a program, though. One would assume that eventually, there will be a new version that will override the current one, and then the references to the original version might disappear! Oh well, I guess we will worry about that when it happens. As long as this fix works for now.
Currently the way it works is that you can't convert old documents to new and can't convert new documents to old-- whichever style the document is created in, it stays in. I do think that they know the hang-ups regarding the new version, though, otherwise they wouldn't let you opt-out of using it.
I wouldn't mind using the new version if there were a way to toggle on and off smart quotes and other style things, but there's not so I will continue to boycott it :|

Ooh! According to this comment by astrogirl2, it looks like they fixed exactly this issue today. Yay! I take back all the horrible things I thought about google today. :D
But guess what? I ate a nice healthy lunch today, with broccoli and little tomatoes and carrots and celery (and salami and cheese and ranch dressing)! Hope I don't die from the shock to my system. ;P
(Well, actually, to be honest, I kind of have a love/hate relationship with broccoli - I know it's good for me, but unless I am really nutrient-starved, I just don't really like eating it. But I really love little tomatoes! Especially this time of the year, when they are all fresh. *happy sigh*)
Errr... Ack? I don't know how to deal with that! *hides*
*sigh* Damn Google for making it so easy to find things! It's probably too late to go and modify my account privacy settings to get off google, then, isn't it. Hmph.
Google apparently just today fixed the thing with it messing up your quotes. (I think I'll take some credit for that, as I complained loudly in the help forums, and they did answer saying it had been changed.) If you're using the latest version, go to the tools menu, select preferences, and uncheck "use smart quotes." Hopefully it should never plague you with them again.
Oh, awesome! Go you for actually trying to do something about this, rather than just grumbling about it in private, like I was. *g*
And hi! *waves to you happily* I've been around, just... lurking. But I guess that doesn't really count, does it. I have been really loving your book reviews, though - I've been reading a lot since I got my new Nook, and I've been desperately looking for new books to try, and your book reviews have been really useful for that! So thank you for that, as well. :)
I should probably add that I wasn't the first one to complain, but I definitely raised the volume. :)
And I'm glad you like the book reviews! I've been quite enjoying the way it gets me to take the time after I finish a book to stop and think about it a bit.
Oh yeah, you and me both about not being able to do the falling thing. I just can't relax and let myself. I took up a karate class purely because they assured me there's no falling, and there hasn't been. I've slackened off lately though because there are so many very young kids in the class who act up and I'd have to go to a much later class to avoid them. But maybe I will. It sounds a lot easier than your class, and it's only once a week. I've been doing night classes that night though so I'll have to catch up massively when I go back

Interesting! I tried to take a karate class in college, and then had to drop it after a few weeks, when they started teaching me how to fall. So I guess it depends on the class, as much as the specific style of martial art. (To be fair, I think it's a good thing to teach people in a martial arts class how to fall. I just can't seem to handle it myself. *sheepish grin*)
I really liked yoga the few times I've tried it, but I've never been able to find a place where I can do it regularly, close enough to where I live. In fact, I was originally "lured" (so to speak *g*) to this current martial arts class by someone who claimed it was "Russian yoga". I didn't think it was a very good description for the class (yoga doesn't have sparring, does it?), but I stayed anyway, because I enjoyed the class, and I thought it would push me to exercise more. I do admit that I kind of wish this class was at least a little bit less intense. I'm afraid
( ... )
No! But it does have some warrior poses. :-) This class is in the next suburb at a community centre I like, plus I already knew the teacher, a lovely American woman.
They said the karate was non-contact, but we do sometimes touch each other, either lightly with feet or hands, or in the stretching exercises we do together. No falling though. :-D
Mall walking is exactly that! It's held in a mall in the early morning before it opens so we can walk through the mall if it's wet, or (more often) outside, around it. I should get back to it. We have coffee afterwards which is nice as it's a way to get to know each other. I just really hated getting up in the complete dark, but the days are getting longer now.
Also I thought I was good at walking, but I'm almost the slowest, and I'll be the worst when I go back since I'm a bit worried about damaging my knee again. It's depressing. My body is so crap.
Heh. One of the first things the teacher of this martial arts class told me was that I've been walking all wrong. I've been trying to figure out exactly how I am supposed to walk ever since, and, three and a half months into the class, I am only now beginning to feel like I might almost be getting it. It amuses me to think that all my life, I apparently never knew how to walk properly. It's been a humbling experience, that's for sure. *g*
Don't push yourself too hard, with your knee! It takes a while to come back from something like that!
I just really hated getting up in the complete dark, but the days are getting longer now.
Yeah, the days here are growing shorter, and I am beginning to be forced awake while it's still dark to go to my morning exercise classes, and wow, it's really hard, isn't it.
(Also, hee! I really love Vila's expression in your icon! That'll be me, come winter. ;) )
And I'm highly susceptible to people pressuring me to do things (or giving me disappointed looks if I don't do something I should do *g*), so I am hoping the structured nature of this class will force me to stay with it longer than I otherwise would. I admit, though, that I kind of wish this class was just a little bit less intense. *sheepish grin*
