I keep meaning to post more here (or post at all, in fact), and then... not doing it. (I pour everything out in long stream-of-consciousness emails to poor

I took up a karate class purely because they assured me there's no falling, and there hasn't been.
Interesting! I tried to take a karate class in college, and then had to drop it after a few weeks, when they started teaching me how to fall. So I guess it depends on the class, as much as the specific style of martial art. (To be fair, I think it's a good thing to teach people in a martial arts class how to fall. I just can't seem to handle it myself. *sheepish grin*)
I really liked yoga the few times I've tried it, but I've never been able to find a place where I can do it regularly, close enough to where I live. In fact, I was originally "lured" (so to speak *g*) to this current martial arts class by someone who claimed it was "Russian yoga". I didn't think it was a very good description for the class (yoga doesn't have sparring, does it?), but I stayed anyway, because I enjoyed the class, and I thought it would push me to exercise more. I do admit that I kind of wish this class was at least a little bit less intense. I'm afraid that I'll burn out at the current pace I'm on. But apparently, with this class, it's either all or nothing.
What is "mall walking", though? The thing that comes to mind is walking in a shopping mall, but that can't be right, can it? *is curious*
No! But it does have some warrior poses. :-) This class is in the next suburb at a community centre I like, plus I already knew the teacher, a lovely American woman.
They said the karate was non-contact, but we do sometimes touch each other, either lightly with feet or hands, or in the stretching exercises we do together. No falling though. :-D
Mall walking is exactly that! It's held in a mall in the early morning before it opens so we can walk through the mall if it's wet, or (more often) outside, around it. I should get back to it. We have coffee afterwards which is nice as it's a way to get to know each other. I just really hated getting up in the complete dark, but the days are getting longer now.
Also I thought I was good at walking, but I'm almost the slowest, and I'll be the worst when I go back since I'm a bit worried about damaging my knee again. It's depressing. My body is so crap.
Heh. One of the first things the teacher of this martial arts class told me was that I've been walking all wrong. I've been trying to figure out exactly how I am supposed to walk ever since, and, three and a half months into the class, I am only now beginning to feel like I might almost be getting it. It amuses me to think that all my life, I apparently never knew how to walk properly. It's been a humbling experience, that's for sure. *g*
Don't push yourself too hard, with your knee! It takes a while to come back from something like that!

Yeah, the days here are growing shorter, and I am beginning to be forced awake while it's still dark to go to my morning exercise classes, and wow, it's really hard, isn't it.
(Also, hee! I really love Vila's expression in your icon! That'll be me, come winter. ;) )
I think I do walk all wrong, never having felt that my legs were that well connected to my brain--I didn't suss walk till I was two, and I had to learn how to skip. I still remember practising step-hop, other leg stop-hop up and down the hall. I'm so much better at punches than kicks, and there's probably a good reason I'm the slowest in the walking group. At least I swing my arms correctly, like a guy. I'm fine from the waist up.
I just couldn't handle exercising in the rain let alone snow. Rain would be worse as you'd just be soaked; in snow the exercise is very warming (I've walked in it). I'd wear the zipped jacket with a pull-over sweatshirt on top.
