So I sort of thought that I was done w/ LJ, but I have had the most incredibly ridiculous few days that I need to tell people. I also want to warn everyone about New Mexico. New Mexico is a dangerous state and I am not a fan. I took off from Fort Stockton, TX on Wednesday and made it to Carlsbad Caverns and, apart from giving myself big blisters, had a pretty good time. Then I headed toward White Sands (after having my interview for the IRC internship while sitting in my car). I got to go through the mountains, which was gorgeous. So as I'm approaching Alamogordo, going down a pretty steep grade for about 50 miles, there's a landslide right in front of me and I hit a rock and get a flat (in retrospect I'm just really glad to have not gotten a rock through my windshield). So I find a place to pull over, it's pouring rain and dark out. My trunk is full so I start pulling all of my stuff out of the trunk in order to get the spare out, you know EVERYTHING THAT I OWN IN THE WORLD. I, of course, don't know how to change a tire, so I flag someone down to help me, which wasn't too hard since I was wearing a mini skirt. So this very nice gentleman changes my tire while all of my belongings get soaking wet. I get down to the bottom of the mountain and Alamogordo is FLOODED. Seriously, suv toshqini (the whole time I was just thanking my lucky stars I could say it in Uzbek). So it finally occurs to me, as I'm quickly becoming hysterical, that I need to stop and sleep. So I get a room, call my mom because I don't know how long I can drive on the spare tire. She just laughs uproariously, totally unsympathetic and entirely unhelpful as she can't work mapquest in order to tell me how far I am from ABQ (it took me until the next day when I had to repeat the whole story to her to realize that she was wasted). Anyway, I figure out that I need to take my car to get a new tire in Alamogordo, which I did. Important sidenote: one should absolutely not wear a low-cut shirt to a garage in rural New Mexico. And $75 dollars later I'm on my way. Headed out of Alamogordo I pass through the White Sands National Missile Testing Facility. Well, turns out they had a test scheduled for Thursday morning so I have to sit in my car while multiple missiles are fired over my head. After that everything was pretty much ok, apart from my car shuddering at 50 and pulling hard to the right. Got that fixed today for another $90, although it won't be totally fixed since I now have different tread on one tire, but in the process left my wallet at the place. Had a minor panic attack about that until I found my phone (under a book) and listened to the message of them telling me that they'd found my wallet. And now it's a torrential downpour in ABQ. What is it with this state? I think I may hide from the world for a few days.
