Not Quite My Boom

May 20, 2011 23:33

The title is playing to a Japanese expression "my boom" which means "that which I am obsessing about." This expression is also the inspiration for Boom Noodle, a quite mid-scale Japanese-themed place in the University Village. (There's another one on First Hill.) THere was a NWS alumni get-together there this evening (thanks to weak bus service north of the university, I only got back 45 minutes ago). (this is why I'm crossposting to FB since more of the NWS crew from Back In The Day are there.)
I got the Spicy Lemon Chicken Ramen, and it was quite serviceable. I do know what I'm getting next time (if there is a next time)- dish called Yaki Udon. Reason in three words: Dancing Bonito Flakes. They shave the bonito flakes into slivers, then sprinkle them on at the end, where any air current (including the rising steam) sets them to move. It looks really cool.
