Nothing Important to Report... Yet!

Yeah... it's true. We're underway at this very moment and we just lost one of our main engines about 10 minutes ago. It sucked pretty bad... it always does. The lights dimmed out pretty bad when we lost fires in out boiler and... well... hold on. Let me give you a quick background since we're both here. Our ship runs off of 2 boilers. These boilers create 600 lb. steam pressure which powers our main engine, (reduction gears to spin the shaft/propellor), and our SSTGs, or Ship Service Turbine Generators. These SSTGs give the ship it's electricity needed to power itself. When you lose fires, you lose the steam to the SSTG's... and when you lose the SSTGs, you lose the power to the ship. You pretty much cut the bloodlines to the heart of the ship. When this happens, we, (us electricians), bring up our EDGs, or Emergancy Diesel Generators. These are essentially huge diesel engines in a space that temporarily give us our power need to feed vital loads on the ship only. It's really scary when you hear the SSTGs go down... it almost sounds like an animal slowly dying... kinda like a death gripped gasp for life and failing. Anyway, we lost the SSTGs, (am I boring you yet?) and almost lost the EDGs because they wouldn't start... go figure, right? Ugh, I'm so sick of this crap. Working from 0700 to 1700 and then having to stand a watch from 2200-0200 really puts a hurtin' on the ol' cocount. Look at it like this. One of my best friends just went to the shrink today and was prescribed Zoloft because he was chronically depressed. I got a pill from him and tried the stuff.... and HOLY SHIT!!!! It felt like a happy little koala crapped a rainbow in my head!! Nothing bothers you when you're on that shit. You bang your knee? You look down at it, go "stupid knee," and continue. Pain is a thing of past on this stuff. Wow-wee am I on cloud-9 right now!! Yeah so I'm gonna go now before I come down and really start to hate life.
