Negative Spoons Day

On the outside, I'm just like other people. This makes my life harder sometimes, because on the inside, I am not. I live with a few illnesses and mental health problems, and they limit my spoonsThe funny thing about having limited spoons is that people who live an ordinary, reasonably healthy life don't ever have to think about counting them ( Read more... )

Thank you.

It was an eye opener when it was first introduced to me. And yes, I recognise that, when people say, "but if you just did a little more!" and no, it doesn't work that way. When you need to count spoons, you realise how many demands other people place on you. Hang in there!

I do get that one! Most of my problems trace back to one mental health condition, so it's totally not visible.

Making compromises, yes. That's exactly how I've been feeling. I've read the Spooon theory before though. Still the best explanation of dealing with chronic illness and/or disabilities.

I'm there with you. I hit negative spoons this past Wednesday. I took Thursday and Friday off, and I'm only now starting to feel like I've got some of them back. I started a new job on July 1, and it's a job that has taken all the spoons of people healthier than I am. So it scares me a bit. But I'm the only one left who could do this job, so here I am, using up spoons.

Be careful with that, I'd say, but I know you know this, and taking days off is good. My job craziness was only temporary, so I know I can recover, but a permanent thing like that? Take care of yourself.
