I agree, it's very odd.
As the saying goes, "the grass is always greener in the other side."

The truth is that personally I don't care about any of them but after having been treated to tons of newspaper articles about Will and Kate, I'm a bit miffed.

Well, could be they still have hard feelings? My great grandmother (maternal grandfather's mother), a peasant, was knocked up by the local prince, then conveniently married off to a one-eyed widow farmer. There was no respect or love for German aristocracy in my maternal side of the family growing up here in America.

I can't say that I've ever heard stories like that about the Preußen family, but that doesn't mean that no one of their male family members could have behaved in a similar way.

My great grandmother was born in Moos, Amberg-Sulzbach in Bavaria. I don't know who the local prince was there in 1890's.

Ooh, Bavaria isn't exactly a region I know very well.

Just digging around on the net a bit, I came up with the King of Bavaria, Otto I, who was mentally ill, so that the country was actually run by Prince Luitpold in 1890. Their family name was Wittelsbach, and of course the family was huge. There must have been many more princes and counts etc.

Bavaria was divided up in several parts, one of which is Oberpfalz. And Oberpfalz again was divided up in several parts, one of which is Amberg-Sulzbach.

Both Oberpfalz and Amberg-Sulzbach seem to have been ruled by some minor princes or counts. At least I came across an elector of Amberg and a count of Holnstein, who were connected to the city of Amberg, but they might have lived before 1890.

I think one needs to be a historian to find out who ruled which part of Germany back then.

Maybe because the others still are monarchy where the local royals really aren't royal anymore. I don't know.

I thought it was odd how much press the Will and Kate got here but I think it has more to with people loved Dianna and Will is her son so we love him by proxy.

I assume you're right, but I'm still a bit astonished because I can recall enough articles about minor German ex-aristocracy. You can't imagine how outraged people were, when Ernst August Prinz von Hannover, who happens to still be married to Prince Albert's sister, publicly had a piss a few years ago.
