Am I the only one who is tired of Sami getting abandoned? Yeah, she does bad things. So does Kate (do I really need to explain that example?), Victor (way too much history to limit), Carrie (two-time adulterer, anyone?), Lucas (hello, was going to let Sami fry for someone he murdered), John (DiMera involvement, anyone?), Marlena (John and Roman weird ass connection), and Hope (DiMera, Bo and Patrick kerfluffle, blaming Bo for what Chelsea did - and don’t get me started on that, Larry, etcetera etcetera), to name a few No one is perfect. Sami is a screw-up but no more than anyone else. And the running theme is getting old. I for one would like Sami to be happy, just for a while. Everyone comes down hard on her, yet looking at her parents alone, they can’t say much. Sami deserves happiness. All her screw ups have been in an effort to be happy. Marlena abandons her (again) for Carrie and tattles to Roman. Great, it’s “let’s make Sami feel even worse.” For a professional, she sure doesn’t seem to realize that tactic never works.
Honestly, Sami deserves a better family. And go her for standing up to Roman; saying either to accept or not, she is who she is and that won’t change. She shouldn’t have to beg for forgiveness. Carrie doesn’t, even though she left Austin for Mike and still cheated on Lucas with Austin. Granted, Sami helped set that up but Carrie’s a grown woman and if she wasn’t happy in the marriage, it was up to her to back out. That can’t be laid on Sami. Sami’s action might change the course, but the other people still have free will. And Marlena mentioned Eric being a good kid. Did I miss the part where he was involved with Nicole (and wow, bring her back, please) and runs far to escape the madness of the Evans-Brady-Black family?
I know Sami’s not perfect; I wouldn’t want her to be. As EJ said, the good and bad girl sides make her interesting; create the fun and exciting character. If Kate can be forgiven for her colossal screw ups then so can Sami. Sami does it for the best of reasons, whatever they are, and they usually turn to shit, but they were made with good intentions. Kate constantly interferes in her kids’ lives - Phillip’s latest debacle for example - but is forgiven with fanfare. Why? I don’t get it. She kept Clare’s paternity a secret in order to make sure Belle didn’t leave her kid for Shawn. Uh, that’s not her place. But she’s forgiven (well, not by Phillip yet, but I’ll come back eventually) with very little issues. But Sami goes and has to defend her own happiness and thoughts because no one believes in her. It’s pretty damn old now.
Sorry, I know this is a random rant, but I like Sami. She’s a strong character with dimension. She’s more than a caricature. She’s vulnerable and Alison Sweeney plays that to perfection. I don’t want her with EJ, simply because he’ll break her heart. She deserves someone that loves her, good and bad side. Remember Brandon? Yeah, him. He would have been great, but of course, he left. Let’s get someone else out there. Just a thought.
