A very nice day

I got my learner's permit again on Tuesday and I went driving for the first time in about a year yesterday. My mom picked me up from work in her new car and took me to Columbia to practice. I did much better than I thought I would, they had a little parking garage and I drove up and down the three floors, practiced parking and a three point turn. Driving still really freaks me out to a large degree, I can only go about 10 MPH but I think I can actually do this now. The new car is 6 years newer than our old one and it was much more responsive when you turn. I've named it Mahoney.

We went to the Asean Bistro which was knock down fabulous. I had Crab Rangoon then Crispy Honey Shrimp and we split Melted Chocolate with Ice Cream and Coconut Sorbet (served in a hallowed out coconut shell) for desert. It seemed like the Chinese equivalent of Della Notte's my favorite Italian place in little Italy.

Then we drove around Columbia, it struck me as a pretty but soulless place where upper-middle class white people fly to like mosquitoes to a bug lamp. I've always been biased though, up to a certain point (somewhere beyond PG county) the further a place is from Baltimore City proper the more it strikes me as lacking authenticity and heart. I should stop typing before I start to sound too much like Holden Caulfield :).

I bought us a bottle of mead and then went home to climb into a Fassbinder film, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul and then Krzysztof Kieslowski's Blue (the first of the Three Colors Trilogy based on the colors of the French flag, I can't wait to watch Red and White.) Twas a very nice day, today I want to reach into the soil of my backyard with my bare hands and will life into dirt. The garden is a bit sad right now.
