Artist's statement & every child has known God

Jun 10, 2010 21:51

I'm not here to show you anything new.
I don't think I can teach you anything you don't already know.
I am here to pay tribute.
I am here to worship-- beauty, that is, as Gabriela Mistral has said, the shadow of God over the Universe.
My work is anything but, new.
And I am anything but, original.
For my art is not really MY art.
I just want you to remember that you are beautiful, and you have a good heart, and you are not alone.
Please find this.
I made this for you.
And I invite you...

Every child has known God,
Not the God of names,
Not the God of don'ts,
Not the God who ever does Anything weird,
But the God who knows only four words.
And keeps repeating them, saying:
“Come Dance with Me, come dance.”

By Hafiz, a Persian mystic and poet. He was born sometime between the years 1310 and 1337 in Shiraz, at the foot of the Zagros Mountains in southwest Iran.
