Title: Dreams of a Witches' Sabbath (1/1)
Author: Leigh, aka
leigh_adamsPairing: Bloody Baron, Grey Lady
Rating: PG
Word count: 200
Summary: The Baron dreamed of Samhain, and the witch he saw dancing around the bonfire.
Notes: This was written for
redcandle17 as part of the 2014 Halloween drabble exchange at
hp_halloween. This one gave me a bit of trouble as I've never written these two characters before, but I like what came out of it. Title comes from the musical inspiration for this drabble,
the 5th movement of Symphonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz. Much love to my Kate,
mugglechump, for glancing this over for me.
When one was a ghost, time was inconsequential. The Baron did not know how many years it had been since his own death -- over a thousand, at least -- nor did he care. The seasons changed, new students arrived and departed the school. Teachers came, teachers left. Students died. Teachers died.
In the end, everyone dies.
Hogwarts celebrated Samhain with candy and treats, floating jack o'lanterns and childish pranks. A far cry from the festivals of his day, when the darkest of magic was performed under the full moon. Incantations cast around a bonfire as witches danced in the chill autumn air. He remembered so vividly watching his beloved Helena on such a Samhain, summoning spirits and dancing in the flickering light from the fire. A powerful witch, she had been, with dark magic in her that would have stunned all who knew her. His obsession with her had begun on such a night -- an obsession that had led to both their doom.
Now new witches danced in the fields outside Hogsmeade, casting spells for their Dark Lord as they cleansed the school of Muggle filth. The Baron watched. Helena watched. All the ghosts watched.
But only he dreamed of Samhain.
