Author’s Notes: Written for  hp_humpdrabbles .  The prompt was 'money can't buy you love, but it sure gets you a great bargaining position.'

Money wasn't something that Astoria particularly noted in a man. Of course, all the men she dated were wealthy; she rarely saw a man more than once who was outside the old blood. It wasn't that she was prejudiced- her own brother was less than pure- but rather that men of that standing were what she was accustomed to. Well bred, fantastically wealthy, but cut from the same cloth.

That'd been what she thought until she met him.

Julian Vaisey. He was of the old crowd, wealthy, devastatingly handsome- though the last was a fact he was all too aware of- and a bit of a rouge. His status as a bastard left him on the outer fringes of their society. He was tolerated, accepted to a point, but never really belonging.

She'd sworn off pursuing her attraction to him, though. He was a notorious womanizer and philandering rake, a fact to which the trail of broken hearts and empty beds attested to. She didn't need or want his money, and she quite liked her heart unbroken.

But after the ordeal with his ex-lover, Penelope, something within him changed. She no longer saw him on the society pages of Witch Weekly, pursuing leggy blonde models one after the other. In fact, he seemed almost...withdrawn. He was the same charming, handsome man with that devilish smirk and classic style, but he no longer chased anything with a skirt.

At least, that's what she thought until the invitations started to arrive.

It was with part excitement and part trepidation that she realized Julian Vaisey hadn't stopped pursing women. He'd merely turned his attentions to one person.

She initially refused. A leopard couldn't change his spots, no matter how hard he tried, but she soon learned that fighting a battle with Julian took more time and effort than she was willing to indulge in. And there was still that part of her that wondered what it'd be like to have him.

It had more than surpassed her wildest dreams. He was an attentive, responsive lover, and it seemed to be his personal mission to bring her as much pleasure as humanly possible. Her lithe body trembled beneath his dark hands; long, aristocratic fingers danced over pale skin until they slipped between her thighs. Slowly, surely, he stoked her desire until she was panting and arching against him.

"Bella," he whispered, breath hot against the shell of her ear as he moved over her. His dark green eyes locked with hers, and then he was inside of her and oh, so good. All coherent thought fled from her mind as she clung to him, riding out waves upon waves of pleasure that threatened to rip her apart.

When the furious desire has passed, and they paused to catch their breath, he drew her close and ran his fingers through her hair, pressing a chaste kiss to her forehead. The moment of tenderness felt oddly right, as though they'd been meant for this.

And in that moment, Astoria was grateful for her surrender.
