The sun is shining right into my window, and I'm getting a tan just sitting at my computer. These 75 degree days in late October kind of make me fearful of their environmental implications, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them now and again.
At first I thought going home this weekend would be a mistake, as I have midterms for the next three days, but now that I think about it, it was probably the best thing for me. I was forced to study in the train and in the car on the way back, so I may actually do well on my exams. Then again, I could just as easily fail them all. But at least I have the satisfaction of knowing I studied.
This weekend was indeed quite a bit of fun, even if I did have to wake up in the wee small hours of the morning to make it to the train. Even the flatulent man in front of me on the train was alright, as the guys behind me were a hoot. I think talking to them on the way home was the most fun I've ever had on a train. And upon getting home I got to use our new shower, which was amazing. The concert on Friday was worth the train ticket money, as well.
But the real high point of the trip would have to be Saturday--a near perfect day. It started out with homemade pancakes made with freshly picked apples followed by a trip to a craft fair with several members of the Shier Extended Family (Becki, Mary, and Beth). After spending too much money, we went to the cider mill and made with the bonding and apple cider drinking. I love Michigan in Fall. Once back home, we made 9 apple pies and danced around the house to the sounds of classic 60's music. Some errands were run as well, which are always hilarious (Becki and Mary are insane...should never take them to the grocery store if you value your reputation, which, gladly, I don't.)
After a dinner of pizza, Julie and I departed to the beloved Target. Post spending even more money, we grabbed Ellen and went back to the Shier Abode where we spent a couple of hours playing the dictionary game and laughing far too much. (Come on, Julie and Ellen together, not to mention Dad being--well--himself. And with words like packapoo and menippe, you're bound to get some interesting definitions.) After Shier bonding, we went to the Slutt where we played some intense games of cribbage. Arriving back home, I voted! Anyway, it doesn't sound too interesting, but it was fantastic.
I got back to NU on Sunday to an interesting scene--it seems some things went down while I was gone. That of course means cuddling on the futon was in order, and it was duly seen to with alacrity. We also had a lovely Phi Psi trip where much pie was consumed and many binary jokes were made. Don't ask. Anyway, the whole point of this entire entry is procrastination because I don't want to study. I think it worked.
