Not really a spoiler, but...
...in the latest chapter of the Blue Exorcist manga (ch.29), Rin calls Bon "Suguro-hime."
Suguro-hime....FWAHAHAHAHA.
(Princess Suguro, for those of you following along at home who don't know the honorific.)
Oh, Katou-san, you must love your fangirls....
Yeah, I'm still here, still not dead, still fixated on Blue Exorcist. I've written about ten fics in the last...month and a half, I guess? I'm hanging onto them for now in the hope of finishing my whole storyline and having a complete arc to share, but the freaking thing just keeps getting longer and longer. I keep having new ideas...although I'm pretty sure of how the end is going to go. I just have to figure out all the getting-there parts.
Things that I've been trying to figure out for my own devious purposes:
- Exactly how the exorcist training system works. Yukio states at the beginning of the school year that he's two years ahead of the then-pages, and he's a full exorcist--became an exorcist at thirteen. So it sounds like the cram school lasts for two years, i.e., they'll become exorcists themselves in two years.
(And poor Rin has to pass his qualification exam sometime in January of his first year, yikes.)
I think they're still on summer break in the manga. I've gotten them up to September already, since a new school term has started. I may have effed up a little in that I have them attending cram school classes in, er, August. But! Since they had to stick around and do forest camp while the regular students went home on break, maybe I can presume that exorcists-in-training don't get a summer vacation.
And when do they start splitting off to work toward their individual meister titles? Hmm...I think I'll assume that they start meister work at the beginning of their second term. Considering that they had to declare their meister just before the esquire qualification exam, presumably now that they're esquires they need to get to work on it.
- How the portal keys work. If one travels to Futsumaya with the appropriate key, does the same key automatically take you back to where you came from? Or do you have to have another key to get you back? I haven't seen any sign that the students get portal keys to their dorms (the contents of Rin's pockets--on the back of volume 1--include just two keys, the cram school key and the key for hiding things, which he has yet to use for anything, btw). It kinda makes sense to me that you'd need a key to get into the cram school in order to avoid Mephisto's traps and barriers, but that once you're in you can just walk out normally--that the protections only hold for trying to get in. Hehehe, this is just me trying to explain away the fact that I have people walking from place to place. ^^;;;;
- Whether and how to work in material from the manga. Right now, as mentioned before, I'm in fangirl continuity, generally following the anime up through at least Rin's trial, and probably including the Gale episodes as well before branching off. But there's some cool stuff in the manga continuity. Can I warp the manga continuity around to hook it up with my stuff later on? Hm.
- What to do with Bunny Boy. Bunny Boy is a pain in the ass, because of course there's something going on with him, and if I do take my story all the way up to an endgame scenario, I'm gonna have to get into that at some point. (But at least I've found a way to write him out of the hot springs story....)
I've got a theory... (actually, there are several theories). It's possible he may also be a spy for the Vatican, as Shura mentions that she's not the only one. Though it seems weird and rather like overkill to plant two Vatican spies in the same place, unless he's supposed to be keeping tabs on her, but if she's that unreliable then they shouldn't have put her there in the first place. Unless there are different factions in the Vatican, which very well may be the case....
mimian speculates that he's an angel, which is an interesting possibility and somewhat borne out by a late episode of the anime where he recites scripture while the Gehanna Gate is being formed. (This would also support him being a Vatican agent.) I have trouble connecting "angel" and "obnoxious rabbit puppet" in my head, but it would make an excellent cover. I was leaning toward him being either Mephisto's spy in the class (which would explain why he passes the esquire exam when he doesn't do anything), or another of the eight Demon Kings, but if I take the scripture thing as canon that probably kills either one of those options. (It doesn't actually happen in my continuity, since I don't go up as far as the anime's endgame, but it's one of the very few clues to his nature that we've seen. Assuming of course that it has any bearing whatsoever on his actual nature and isn't just anime-only wackiness.)
Whatever I do with him, it's almost certainly going to be jossed anyway, so I probably shouldn't worry about it too much.
- What to do with Yukio, who needs to have his own awesomeness respected, as well as his bond with his brother; the latter is being somewhat eclipsed at the moment due to the heavy focus on Bon/Rin. Which would be less of a problem, again, if I wasn't thinking about epic endgame scenarios.
Aaaah, maybe I should skip the whole epic thing and just stick with the totally gratuitous porn....
(Not really looking for answers here so much as just getting the questions out of my head. ^_^)
