I've been playing video games since Pong. I had an orginal Atari, even before they called it a 2600, but I'm not really a hard core gamer. Of course I'm not casual either...I'm medium to hard core I think. At any rate I have had my share of heartbreak over bad, and or broken games and thought I would share them with you.
5. Condemned: Criminal Origins (Xbox360,Sega) - Why Condemned? It plays well, it isn't glitchy or broken, but I just can't get past the trite story. I just had higher hopes for it, and it didn't measure up to what I thought it would be.
4. Red Faction II (Xbox, THQ)- Sure it was prettier than the original but the story wasn't nearly as good and I hate never ending enemies. Re spawning is the work of the Devil. Also, what happened to the original characters? I want to know what happened to Parker and Eos! Seriously, if Bungie had come out with Halo 2 and set it on earth and Master Chief was no where to be found, people would have had a fit! This game made me sad.
3. Soldier of Fortune: Payback (Xbox360, Activision Value)- What a crappy glitchy game! Not only did they make the same mistake that THQ, and Volition did with Red Faction II by not having John Mullins, but you can tell they were desperate to ape Call of Duty 4. Sad. Also, as I said before it's glitchy as hell, and it's painfully obvious that the suits forced the programmers to shove it out the door before it was ready. What crap.
2. Revolution (PC, don't know the publisher)- A first person shooter set in the future where corporations have practically enslaved everyone. It was a beautiful cyberpunk game for the PC, and it was lots of fun...until you get to the part where it's broken. You play about a third of the way through and it stops, and pops up an error message. Yep a wasted 30 bucks and an incomplete and heart breaking gaming experience. Apparently the developers were Serbian and were going broke so they put it on the market broken hoping to be able to patch it later or something, but they went under before they could. This game is so bad that I cannot find any information on it anywhere. It's like a bad dream.
1. E.T. (Atari, Atari)- Anyone who has played this game knows why I put it at number 1. It is pure shit. It was made in two weeks by one guy who had corporate suits breathing down his neck the whole time. They were adamant that it be out for the Christmas season. I got it and was so excited, and then I played it and my poor little 14 year old heart was broken. :( Have you seen that episode of Code Monkeys that deals with this? The kids' reactions were spot on. Seriously, you could not play it because once you fell into the pit and collected the phone piece it was a bitch to get out again and then you kept falling back in! I don't know of anyone who got to the second level, though I'm sure someone did...I hope. What a mess.
