The windows on the car were rolled down. Jake fiddled with the car stereo, switching through and over one station to the next. He didn't listen to more than 10 seconds of a song. Finally He glanced over and glared at Jake silently. Jake twisted in his seat to look back at Holly.
"What do you want to listen to?" Jake asked her. If he noticed her cower slightly, he did not let on.
"You pick," she said, pulling the suitcase on her lap tighter to her chest.
"You're not fun," he said, hauling out a CD case holder and flipping through it. He settled on an album before he started to give directions to the nearest coffee shop. Holly wondered if he had been testing her. She wondered if she failed or if he thought that she was really no fun. She looked out the window, wide eyed.
"That place doesn't have a drive through, you tool," He was saying.
"Yeah it does. It does. I've been through it before!" Jake insisted, pointing out at window at nothing in particular. He sped up to make it through a yellow light and then took a corner sharply.
"Fine. Fine, you always think you're right so let's go," He said, although he didn't sound angry and then drove up the street toward a blinking neon open sign.
"Oh." said Jake as they pulled into the parking lot. "Nevermind then. Let's go to the place over on Adams Street."
"No. We're here so you go in and buy."
"Jesus. . .alright what do you want?" he asked Holly, unbuckling himself and flinging the door open. Make it good. Make it good, she thought desperately.
"Hot chocolate. . .and don't forget the whipped cream." Jakes stared at her.
"But it's summer time! It's really hot out!"
"I'm a weird girl," she grinned. He shrugged and went inside. Holly sat quietly for a moment before she said "he forgot to ask you."
"He knows what I want," came the quiet response from the drivers seat.

Jake came outside and passed around the drinks. Holly took a careful sip, licking the whipped cream off her lips.
"Happy?" Jake asked her as he got back in the car.
"Completely," Holly replied, sinking low in the back seat.
"Alright. We've got to get home before the movers. You coming?" He asked Jake.
"Only if I get to carry a carload of suitcases up and down the stairs."
"I've got right here with your name on it," Holly said.

420 words. tonight i'm having an issue because i wrote out my whole story on my computer at home, stuck it on a floppy disc and came to work to post it only to find out that i can't put floppy discs on this computer. oi.

i had to type this out in the "add reply" area of a message board because i thought it would show me how many words i had but no, it was characters. oi again. so i counted out the words by hand. ugh.

this part is not finished as far as i'm concerned. i might rework it tomorrow. maybe i'll include jake's pretty new last name.
Jake McConway.
