Winter has dragged on long and I'm sick of it. Although it doesn't look like Spring will ever be here again with this cold and snow, it is time to start some seeds. This gives me hope. I'll soon look like a tomato. We've been eating cherry tomatoes and beef steak tomatoes like crazy. This pile was picked today and there's more. Last winter we froze enough for sauces through the season, but won't have the same harvest this year. The cucumbers are doing well. And unfortunately, we lost a bunch of basil to frost a few nights ago.

I haven't seen lightning like last night in a long while. The storm hung over the city, slightly eastward, for hours. What was so remarkable was that the lightning storm was non-stop and not moving on. At times multiple strikes shot across the sky, some forking downward, some across the sky. The sun shone today after 24 hours of torrential downpour. According to Environment Canada we received the amount of rain typical for the entire month of June. The vegetation outside looks incredibly green, and overgrown. It's like a jungle out there ( Read more... )

The clouds persist but at least the rain stopped, which allowed us to plant the last of the seeds - long english cukes, baby gourmet beets, snow peas, green and yellow beans, and carrots.
