i'd like to take this opportunity to say FUCK ALL OF YOU PRETENTIOUS ASSHOLES. i hate it when mother fuckers are ALWAYS going on about this underground band and that underground band, reciting the history of the group as well as the bio of every fucking member. people like that get on my nerves more than anyone else, the people who force music on ( Read more... )

it's not that im mad at people for liking music a lot, it's just that now it's out of control. if there's a group of bands that sound a certain way, even if it's just like 5 of them, there's suddenly a genre dedicated to their sound. i mean, everything ends with fucking 'core' now. and i mean, i understand really generalized labels like hardcore and folk and indie, because there are enough bands and shit out there that sound a certain way. but it's out of control, like think of all the fucking labels-- hardcore, grindcore, crust, thrash, metalcore, punk, anarchopunk, street punk, etc. it's lame as hell that when a band emerges that sounds different, they're automatically assigned a label. i'm not pretentious about my music, i dont force it on anyone. i've recommended bands to people based on what they like already, but if no one likes what i like, fuck it, it doesnt change how i feel about what i like. and i've never thought my music was better than someone elses because different music affects people differently. i couldnt care less what people like. but, as a musician, i really really disrespect a lot of people who are in the scene right now, the people who dont play music at all but still take it upon themselves to critique the fuck out of it. there's a huge difference in talent and noise, but there are a lot of people out there that we both know who cant differentiate between the two. but as long as they like what the like, that's straight with me. but i dont ever want to be assigned a genre, because once you're put in that box, you're never getting out. one of the best beastie boys albums i've ever heard is half instrumental, a quarter punk, and a quarter rap. it was their worst selling album because people always expected them to stick with rap, and when they tried to branch out {which they did really really well} people gave it shitty reviews. i dunno man, the scene is lame and i'm at the point now where i prefer that people dont know i'm into music.
