I can highly recommend researching car models (and what their owners have to say about them in the Forums) on Edmunds.com.

That web site will also give you some sterling recommendations on what a fair price is to pay for a car. I used it before buying my Subaru, and it really cut down on the haggling time. I printed out the Fair Price worksheet, and the dealer matched the price without quibbling.

We bought a new 2009 Versa in July. It has been a good car so far. It gets great gas mileage and is comfortable to ride in. We only paid approx. $14,000 for the hatchback version. I'm very pleased with it so far. We'll find out in a year or two.

Good luck!
