Io.9 asks it's readers how long they read a book before they give up on it.

I found I couldn't select any of the options, because none of them really describe what I do, which is a pattern of hard-read, skim, skip, drop.

"I'm a ton less charitable when it comes to fanfic -- the writer better grab me in the first five paragraphs or I hit the backarrow button." - I'm the same. With original stories, though, it depends how bored I am. If I'm looking for something good, and what I'm reading is just not grabbing me, I'll leave after a couple paragraphs. But If I'm tired / bored / just wanting to waste time, I usually don't feel like browsing around. I'll keep reading until I'm either thoroughly disgusted, or I've finished the story.
