Hmmm... pacing is getting a bit weird here.

I seem to be suffering from Chapter length creep. I don't know if this is because I naturally want to prefer a chapter length of about 6000 words or if I'm getting wordier and wordier as I go on.

Anyone else have this problem?

This is how Undesirable is turning out. Disregarding the prologue which was meant to be short, I went from an average chapter length of about 3000 words to an average chapter length of twice that amount.

Prologue: 298
Chapter 1: 3513
Chapter 2: 2924
Chapter 3: 3792
Chapter 4: 3639
Chapter 5: 4082
Chapter 6: 4546
Chapter 7: 4246
Chapter 8: 5318
Chapter 9: 5954
Chapter 10: 6415
Chapter 11: 6398
Chapter 12: 5472
Chapter 13: 6015
Chapter 14: 6363

And this was without me paying any attention to the length of the chapter, just putting the stopping points where they "felt right". And the weird thing is, until I actually counted the words and compared I really thought my chapters were about the same length. In fact I thought the porn in my last chapter was a bit on the short side, which is why I went back and checked it compared to the porn in chapter 5 which filled the entire chapter. Well yes - because they both turn out to be about 4000 words of porn, it's just that I added another 2000 words of something else in chapter 14.

Reading back, it doesn't feel like the earlier chapters are that much shorter. True they zip along but they cover about as much territory as the later chapters - and least that's the way they feel to me. Why is it that my head and what is actually happening with the pacing are this far apart?
