Torchwood

So my husband got a copy of Torchwood and we've been watching the episodes. I think it's a fun show, very much in keeping with the Dr. Who variety of intergalactic mischeif and the tones a nice mix between silly and angst. But it also has what Dr. Who has been lacking -- or rather it's been lacking what Dr. Who has, ie: a sense of propriety. Dr Who was ever the consummate tease, lavishing both alien and companion with tender attention. He has a charismatic way of showing that he cares deeply for everyone he encounters, and he'll put his life on the line for them (so long as they aren't behaving in a completely stupid way). But it's tease tease tease, until they inevitably fall head over heels for them and then he gets this kind of distant "oops" look. The "I like you but not in that way" look. The "I'll flirt but I'm saving myself for marriage" kind of propriety. Dr. Who is a prude.

Captain Jack on the other hand... Well he's still dashing and shows he cares (though maybe not quite as much as the Doctor did). He doesn't have quite the same charisma -- but on the other hand, he does put out. And out. And out. And everyone on his team is willing to take one for the team. And those who aren't get to anyway.

And that's what this show has that Dr. Who didn't. Fanservice. LOTS of it. Seriously, there has been more snogging and even graphic sex in these 4 episodes than in all 30 whatever years of Dr. Who. And it's totally jumping on the "people like slash" bandwagon. The only member who hasn't had a same sex snog session is Toshiko Sato, but I have high hopes for some Toshiko/Gwen in the next couple of episodes.

For a peson who writes YAOI RARE PAIRING PORN -- I'm surprised to find the old familiar prude coming back. I BLUSHED my way through each of these episodes. I guess I was expecting this to be rated PG like Dr. Who -- and not a healthy R (for graphic bathroom vanity sex).
