They axed Riley from CSI? Damn, that's cold. It's really not LLS's fault the character didn't work, the writers spectacularly fucked that up. They could still fix it by giving her some backstory, some actual personality traits and quirks (at least, more than the 2 or 3 they gave her over the course of an entire season), and relationships with the other characters that go beyond "Yeah, I guess they seem to like each other." But that would require actual work, I guess.

I wonder if they'll even bother to script in a few lines explaining where Riley went. It's not like they bothered with Sofia, and Louise Lombard was on the show for almost three years.

I find this incredibly annoying, despite the fact I never really warmed to the Riley character (I wanted to, but...) and I think the enormous timesuck of having both Ray and Riley, two ridiculously underdeveloped characters, is what has pushed me away from watching the show regularly. But I would watch if the writing didn't blow. And say what you will about the genre of crime/forensics programming and their general depiction of woman (often frustrating and/or downright blood-boiling), it's one rare place outside of sci-fi I can find female characters that are professionals, doing their jobs and generally being bad-ass, I find the fact that CSI hasn't been able to develop a new one for ten years ridiculously pathetic. And I'm annoyed the ones they have tried to form have been so disposable. They'll also be down to Cath, Ray, Nick, and Greg with occasional Sara for the graveshift. On a show that regularly shoots 2 episodes at once. They need the bodies (hardy har har), and something about the implication they needed to bounce Riley to have room for Sara rubs me in all kinds of wrong, not-fun ways, even if in some ways, I do appreciate that it does seem like the writers were finally hit by a Clue-By-4 and are trying to get their shit together.

Poor LLS, though. Maybe she'll go back to making Canadian arthouse porn? I wouldn't mind that, as long as I can watch with the sound muted.

(OBLIGATORY: SHOULD HAVE JUST HIRED KATEE SACKHOFF, YOU IDIOTS.)
