January 2014 Report

Feb 01, 2014 23:39

Started off the year quite well:

Fanfic

I wrote 14491 words in January, which is more than I'd need on average to reach 150k, not even considering that I'll do 50k in November.

My Choice PG-13. Fallout 2 Fanfic. Female Chosen One/Cassidy. 1452 words.

I haven't posted this and I'm not sure I will. The thing about fanfic of RPG games is that the main character depends on the player and this fic in particular is not just about the choices I made (which were pretty straightforward hero playthrough) but the things I imagined as I made those choices. It's also a very reflective fic, where the main character ponders her life and I'm not sure how much sense it makes with only seeing implied what exactly that life was. Maybe it's just fine to have written this as self-indulgence (and I really felt that I had to, because the game wouldn't let me take this step and by the end I was shipping them pretty hard). Or I could just post it to AO3. I don't expect many people to read it. There are currently 3 fics for "Fallout 2" and all of them are also tagged as Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Copy PG-13. John/Rodney. 8336 words. A John from another universe pops up in Atlantis. It turns out he's married to Rodney. His Rodney comes to get him home.

I only wanted to quickly write this down because it seemed that there wasn't that much that I really wanted from this story. Mainly John realizing the copy's "secret" and Rodney's reaction. But somehow it just dragged on and on and not in a good way. It took me 17 days to write this stupid thing. I haven't re-read it yet. I'm holding out hope that when I give it some time, it'll turn out that I like it. For now I'll just let it rest.

If I didn't have you PG. Monsters Inc/Monsters University. Sulley/Mike. 2919 words.

Another one that I just had to write. After watching Monsters University, I really felt the need for Mike/Sulley fic and it turns out there is almost none on AO3. And none that takes place after Monsters Inc. So I wrote it. Haven't posted it yet, but I think I want to.

Untitled NC-17. John/Rodney. John masturbates until he catches Rodney watching him. Sex ensues. ~450 words in January; not finished.

Turning Point NC-17. Joe/David. 1366 words. David goes to see Joe after he hears the news. (I plan on writing the same from Joe's POV as a counterpart.)

I haven't written Joe/David for over a year, but he news of Joe's wife filing for divorce proved irresistable to me. I feel ambivalent about divorce in general. I don't think it's always a bad or sad thing, though children make it more complicated and I hope they can work that out. In general I have to admit that I'm not really interested in actors' personal lives. For Joe and David in particular, it only really registers to me as the "canon" for my fics, which sounds callous, but I've long come to terms with the fact that my emotional attachment is reserved to the fake versions of them in my head, so my first thought was frankly, "Why are you messing why my canon?" Though technically, Joe divorcing first was always part of my "Ever Fallen in Love?" 'verse. But David always followed suit quite quickly, which will not happen, so this is a bit of an unexpected change to the 'verse.

Art

No art in January, but I did sign up for the SGA Reverse Bang and have a pretty concrete idea of what I'll do.

On the AO3 posting front, I'm still at November 2007 (for the McShep stuff; I'm further behind on Joe/David and Hewligan). I'm at 176 works now, which means I've added two stories since the last report. Both were previously posted stories.

The Don't Break The Chain method has been working quite well for me. I did write every day since I started on January 6th, and the above average word count for January is due to that I'm sure.

I absolutely and definitely need to get back to my Extreme Big Bang story. The problem is that at 75k length it'll take me several hours just to review where I was, but I plan to do that tomorrow and then finish this thing this month!
