Rules: List ten FICS that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard - they don’t have to be the “right” works, or even all the same pairing or fandom, just the fics that have touched you or that stuck with you somehow.
This is seriously difficult. There are so many fics that touched me, that will stay with me for the rest of my life... how can I choose only ten?
I'll try.
Forward To Time Past by Unbridled Brunette. BtVS. The victim of a spell gone awry, Buffy finds herself trapped in Victorian London, where she meets a man surprisingly familiar to her. Winner of twenty-seven awards, including three Best WIPs. What I remember most about this fic is me impatiently waiting for an update. This was the first WIP I followed.
Alone On The Water by
MadLori. Sherlock (BBC). Angst, angst, angst. Tears will flow. Sherlock has a brain tumor and he is dying. What stayed with me the most of this angst-fest was "Still the only one in the world."
Performance In A Leading Role by
MadLori. Sherlock (BBC). Sherlock Holmes is an Oscar winner in the midst of a career slump. John Watson is an Everyman actor trapped in the rom-com ghetto. When they are cast as a gay couple in a new independent drama, will they surprise each other? Will their on-screen romance make its way into the real world? I think this is the fic I've read most. And enjoyed most. Of all the fics in all the different fandoms this one is my most favorite. Brilliant, really.
404 error: file not found by
nejem. Sherlock (BBC). Sherlock wakes up and finds a yellow post-it note on the bedside table. Warnings: illness and memory loss, mentioned and implied character deaths, general heartache. Even more heartache and angst than "Alone On The Water". It touched me personally because this is what I see everyday, what I work with everyday.
Seek And Go Hide by AGee. Dawson's Creek. The story of Doug and Jack - tells the story that leads up to the series finale - how their relationship grows from acquaintances to friends to lovers. Lots of angst and humor. This story is simply perfect. It's so realistic, exactly what I wanted to read at that time. Very in character, very brilliant. And then it suddenly stopps. Sadly enough the author abandoned it (almost finished). I've often thought about continuing it because it just makes me sad to see this perfect, realistic, very canon-compliant story left hanging.
Shadows Of Light by Lindsey Grissom. Harry Potter. Sometimes that which we look for is in the strangest of places, and those that we know are not how they seem. With the war between the Light and Dark drawing near, anything is possible.' SSSB slash Complete. Now separated into parts for easier reading. One of the first Harry Potter stories I read. It's from before I could believe in Snarry (and nowadays I can believe nothing else). With a great Sirius.
Wildest Dreams by kelbebop-phoebenpiper. High School Musical. Exactly why did Chad and Ryan switch clothes after the baseball game? ChadRyan. This one captured my heart because it made me see Chad/Ryan as canon. It's the first in a long series of fics. Go to the author's profile, there you'll find a list of the other stories.
Georgia On My Mind by MeredithGirl. Vampire Diaries. Damon takes Elena on his little road trip to Georgia. Elena, distraught over her resemblence to Katherine, decides to let loose with surprising consequences. Canon through "Bloodlines." Follows most of the show plot with Damon-ic twists... This story sold Delena to me. After the episode "Bloodlines" I was totally team Damon (before that I liked Stefan just as much). And this fic made me believe love the episode even more.
The Shattered One by
MissAnnThropic. Supernatural. When it struck Castiel, he was in mid-flight. It dropped him out of the sky like a sparrow buffeted by gale-force winds. Castiel set down the first place he could find. He ended up standing in a field in Switzerland, swaying on his feet and staring down at his body, dazed by what it had just done. (mpreg). I've never much liked mpreg. I've mostly avoided reading it. But this story showed me that it can be a wonderful thing (though it's not really mpreg, it's angelpreg). Anyway, it's the only "Two men are having a kid" story I loved. There was a wonderful sequel but it looks like the author took it down. Don't know why.
Changing Fate by
velja. Angel the series. The world of Angel & Co. at Wolfram & Hart is turned upside down when Wesley does a spell and Spike gets thrown back in time to Season One. That alone would be enough to screw up everything, but with Spike’s growing feelings for Wesley it gets even more complicated. Will Spike find a way back to his time? And… does he even want to? WIP. I know that it's kind of lame to name one of my own creations in this meme, but I simply have to list CF here because... this fic changed my life in ways I could nevr have imagined. You could say it even saved my live and I won't rest until it is finally finished. I won't give up writing, even if it'll take me another ten years. I started this fic in 2004 and so it's one of my earliest works. But I'm more that determined to bring it to its happy ending. If it's the last thing I do.
There you go, all done.
There's not one piece of Snarry here, nor a Sparrington fic. But I tried to include most of my fandoms.
