I am in agreement. Mind, I don't have as much of a problem with S2 as a lot of people seem to--they say it was boring and didn't have enough action, whereas I appreciate taking the focus off of action to examine the characters a bit. But yeah, nothing subsequent has matched the quality of S1, at least yet.
Although, I will say that as if to make up for it, they've made a lot more of the guys take off their shirts around S2 & S3 :P
Hmm. I got what I wanted out of this episode, I think. (Maybe? Probably.) :D
BUT OH MY GOD SHOW, if you hook up Elle with Sylar in the current timeline after EVERYTHING they've done to each other, including him really trying to kill her and actually killing her precious father, I'm just- that.. DON'T DO THAT, TOO MESSED UP.Yeah, I dunno, I'm getting a really tacked-on feeling about the Elle/Garbriel thing. Which is sad, because it's the first het relationship in the new season that I actually kinda like. (Gabriel's so nerdy and cute and Elle is just awesome for reasons I can't describe! And then Elle invites that guy over who's looking all lustfully at Gabriel and Gabriel's all like "But hooney I dun wanna threesome D:") Like, did they ever give any indication before we saw this episode that they'd known each other before? If they'd dropped the hints/foreshadowing, it wouldn't feel so lame. D

It was a good episode, to be sure! Detailfucked, but totally enjoyable. Like it didn't feel like the writers were overlooking established canon just to get in titilation value because they didn't think we cared about the details, y'know?
I'm pretty sure they never gave indication that Elle and Sylar had known each other previously though. Except that Sylar did seem to particularly relish rubbing it in Elle's face that he'd killed her father, which could be indication that he hadn't forgiven or forgotten her betrayal, rather than just the usual Sylar!sadism. But then reaaaally that should make them hooking up after all this that much more hard to believe/terrible.
So yay for good ep and Petrelli family drama! And uh, glad you finally got a good payoff episode for your character/OTP. *stares critically at the writers*
Also, I can't really imagine Elle having had a baby and then showing no indication of it like...what, one year later? (Right? The flashbacks occurred one year ago-ish...so she had a baby, lost it somehow, and turned sociopathic in that period? o.o Or reverted to being a sociopath, since I got the impression she'd been diagnosed a while ago, yet she was so normal in the last episode...) I'm disappointed, I'd really like this ship if it didn't feel so weird and out of the blue. (Though they've had to been planning this at least since the future episode...)
Hey, at least Mohinder got to narrate again, and he appeared all non fugly. :D :D At least you still have the promise of his spending time with Sylar/Gabriel throughout the season. This could very well be the last episode I get any OTP-stuffs in.
(Also, does this mean that the one hero slated to die this season was Utsutu and not Maya?)
So, I'm of the mind that the Elle, based on S2, is a sociopath who treats the men she's interested in like toys. But even she would've had, I think, something to say about having her baby taken from her (that's probably where they're going with this if the idea is that she was impregnated pre-Sylar!Gabriel, yeah? The Company likes taking its emplyees special babies?) I don't want to say that the loss of her child would turn her all nutty and sociopathic, but that's something comic writers would so totally do, so it's a viable possibility as far as I can see. That, or a Haitianization--she forgets she ever had a baby. Or had Bennet as a partner. Anyway, I'll feel safer liking this ship once I can be assured that she's not going to take up with Sylar NOW, upon heading into Pinehearst. Purely retroactive shipping
