Trisa, the Ohio Group shoot; Tomorrow and Friday...

Sep 13, 2006 21:32

I received a nudge from a very pretty lady telling me I should start showing my work again (thank you very much), so here I am. Before I go into the story, a heads up- tomorrow I have another shoot with Melissa and we are going to be silly with the outfits- camouflage pants, with blue suspenders, and a bow tie...should be a fun time. The next day a ( Read more... )

But amongst the circle of friends, people I admire and respect (not every model I work with fits into these categories), I would at least hope that their immediate response to a shot where I was going for it is shock. That shock you feel when you see beauty/ difference from your regular line of thought. I would like that immediate gut response we have no name for to pass thru them. I think Kant called it sublime or some such vague term for an emotion we can't really define or tie down but know is or response to an intriguing beauty. I think in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance it would be called quality.

And what is it YOU feel from the shots or the experiences of the shoots?
-Shit dude this one is vague, maybe it is supposed to be? The shoots and experiences are vague until they coalesce months maybe years down the road. I feel 'learning' from my shoots. I feel two dimensions when I live normally but when I shoot I can learn from it to see in three dimensions, dig? If you asked me about a specific shoot that was not too recent I could answer this definitively; as a whole I would say I feel 'learning' and excitement.

You and I really should start a Philosophy/Big Question posing forum for photographers. I think people with half a brain might join. You know I am going to throw a ton of questions your way in retaliation now, don't you? Hehehehehhe....Glad to chat with you again and
p.s. I think only the last one has it. The others are vague likenesses of wonderful people. I too, make sure my audience is being honest...or at least I make sure whose opinions I think are worth a damn. Possibly when I show more from this set (at least the good stuff) the breadth of the work will show what I got and where I was headed.

Thanks, same goes out to you. On the is it art question slowing you down....it is all art. Some of it is just better and different than others. I find art in looking bookcases, dig? I can see beauty in design. It is all art when you are looking at it sideways, out the corner of your eyes.

I think our likes and dislikes will change over time. That's life but whether something moves or not, that is not going to change. What I see happen is that since I took the shot, it might move as an experience immediately...but a year down the road, I know what moves and what doesn't. Two years down the road the ones that had that intrinsic beauty or quality (again with Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance) still survive. I might think my technique was hammer fist but the beauty and quality still grip me. Just my two cents.

I have the same problem with my site. Also I have not added the new stuff I consider stunning. What has been happening is the models are posting the work in forums and modeling places before I do....
