I received a nudge from a very pretty lady telling me I should start showing my work again (thank you very much), so here I am. Before I go into the story, a heads up- tomorrow I have another shoot with Melissa and we are going to be silly with the outfits- camouflage pants, with blue suspenders, and a bow tie...should be a fun time. The next day a possible shoot with Amanda (if she shows).
Alright, I'll be as brief as I can be on this- I am very behind on discussing my shoots so in the interest of getting things caught up, I will talk of much older shoots tersely but not so tonight. So after the shoot with Crystal....
I found myself attending a group shoot at the Collingswood Art Center in Ohio. This was the beginning of the end with group shoots for me, for many reasons but I am getting ahead of myself. Days leading up to the shoot I was unable to sleep. I was very anxious about attending this as I know I shoot poorly after long drives. To make a long story short I was frazzled. I woke up 30 minutes late (this never happens), I got a ticket for speeding...in a construction zone!, there was gross construction from the end of Michigan into the interior Ohio making me three hours late and it was strongly suggested photographers book with models beforehand if they expected to shoot. This is the worse thing to strongly plug as a requirement when photographers are coming from out of state...So when I show up 3 girls already hated me. Here's the caper for the people who know me-
Veilofgrey is allergic to the sun; so although I covered up for the ride down it was far too much exposure. By the time I show up for this shoot I am having an allergic reaction. I can't think straight and I am not aware of it. I know something is wrong with me, I just can't think well enough to put my finger on it...for hours.
Anyway, the photographers there are standing around talking to one another about their equipment, camera equipment for the most part, while models are sitting around bored wanting to shoot. Some guy was walking around with a huge light gizmo on top of his camera he said cost a gazillion dollars but he got it for 400. Yep, this is the kind of shit that passes as conversation. I gotta get out of this place! I grab a new model Anastacia, run for the shade outside and get a few shots. Normally, I can bring a new model up to speed but today with the reaction going I was not up to it. I snatch what I can and move on.
On my way back in I run into Trisa and Jeremiah, who are both in Ohio to perform as dancers in the Rocky Horror Show that night. I work with Trisa for maybe an hour. She was a godsend as I was ready to walk. She moved well, took direction well, was a stunner, and taught me things about directing a model's eyes. I was smitten. Then I worked with her and Jeremiah together, capturing some dance moves on film. Jeremiah is a great guy, very calm, and patient.
Finally, I worked with Loren in the basement of the place. He is very kind and a gentle spirit. I really enjoyed working with him too. I had hoped to work with them all again as they were all from Ann Arbor but Trisa moved, and I don't have a number for Jeremiah nor Loren.
Bad times however continue, as when I leave, I left 400.00 in film at the place and have to drive back the following week with a friend to pick it up. We both believe the place is haunted/ cursed and will never go back. It was a good shoot but grossly tainted for me by all the awful things that happened. Boyd is a nice fellow and I am thankful he put this on. I would say go to a group shoot but not for conversation with the photographers. If you can find one that is truly passionate about his work, then the gods have been very kind, but as a rule keep your head down and get your work done. Here's some shots.
