I began my vegetarian stint somewhere in 1995-6, stuck to it for about 3 years and lost it in 1999. I ate fish and chicken at this point. In 2000, I changed my life and became vegan in June with the last dairy eaten in July (I slipped once). Since then, I have been vegan.
I found the hardest thing to keep levels up was vitamin B12. This was fixed when I found the soy milk I was buying had been fortfied with B12 and my levels have never dropped.
