"jeopardy is no fun without you" - sanny
is she not the best friend ever?
i should be studying right now, i have what will probably be the scariest midterm of my life this week, yet here i am, procrastinating like nobody's business.
i went into my store today, to check my hours for the week. so i was making small talk with the girl working, and i mentioned how i wish that our store payed better, just because i am a poor student, and would love more money.
and her response was "yea, too bad stacey (our boss) is jewish".
at first i was confused, because stacey is definitely not jewish, and i didn't understand what she meant.
but then i realized that this stupid ignorant girl, meant that an an insult. as in, "stacey is too cheap to pay us better."
i didn't even know how to respond to that.
i guess growing up in thornhill, i've never really experienced anything like that. i mean obviously i have learned hundreds of times about the persecution jews have suffered through, but this was the first time anything has actually happened to me.
i just looked at her, and i said, "jen, you realize i actually am jewish right?" and she turned bright red, and said she was just joking, but she wasn't joking.
i know it wasn't anything against me personally, she wasn't thinking when she said it, but really, that is one of the most ignorant, rudest things i've ever heard. and i'm sure this wasn't the first time she's made this comment either.
its sort of sickening, that there are people out there, to who this is just part of normal conversation.
